The girls’ camp bumped into the boys’ camp on the Island – and for some (both islanders AND viewers) it was a recipe for disaster.

First off, chef Elliot equated being aggressive with being successful and explained that’s why men dominate the top of his profession.

Then insurance manager Simon commented that men would do better on the island than ‘any standard woman’.

And, as you might imagine, viewers commenting on Twitter were not best impressed.

But they did take some joy from the fact that the women were actually doing very well without them.

Then the attention turned to two women in particular – Erika and Hannah.

Viewers were stunned to find out that Erika was the Erika Roe – the infamous topless streaker at Twickenham from the 80s.

And their love for her grew even more as she refused to be bossed around by the male newcomers and just did her own thing without any fuss.

And then there was inspiring army veteran Hannah, who lost her leg in Iraq and who was being just brilliant at absolutely everything, from fishing to keeping up morale in the new male/female dynamic.

Reality show The Island With Bear Grylls managed to notch up an impressive 95 swear words in 45 minutes.

The Channel 4 series sees eight men and eight women stranded on an uninhabited island in the Pacific after survival training with Bear. They must fend for themselves – finding food, water and shelter.

According to The Sun, 2.5 million tuned in for the 9pm start, but just one million made it to the end of the programme.

The series opener on Monday night reportedly included 67 instances of the f-word, 23 uses of “s***” and one c-word.

After Cassie Farrell quit during the episode, her fellow islander Tilly Martin ranted: “You f****** lazy c*** – good, see you later! You’re no good to us! You f****** sign up you do it you d***head!”

The swearing left many viewers shocked – and even reaching for the remote.

The potty-mouthed islanders may well have broken a record – as this is believed to be the highest number of swear words in a single episode of a British show.

But it comes nowhere near the world record, which is held by US comedy show Strutter.

Channel 4 told The Sun: “The show was preceded by a warning of strong language throughout and it was appropriately scheduled after the watershed.”

Bear stood in front of Michelle Collins, Samantha Barks, Alex Scott and Jason Gardiner and explained the importance of keeping hydrated when out in the wild (nothing wrong with that).

Then he said it’s important to keep hydrated even when there’s no way to boil contaminated water. (Errm okay, but how?)

And THEN he said that rectal rehydration – aka sticking a tube inside your bum and holding the connecting bag of water up high – is an effective way of getting liquid into your body without ingesting it through your mouth so you don’t get sick. (I’m sorry, WHAT?)

And with that, Bear set up what he described as a “rough and ready field hospital”, dropped his pants and had himself some rectal rehydration.

Viewers were pretty happy about that cheeky glimpse of Bear’s bum. (Bear bum, geddit?)

Once he was, ahem, *done*, he informed the not-so-happy campers that it was now their turn to have a go.

The Island with Bear Grylls is back, and there’s a twist: this time, two groups – eight men and eight women – will be dropped on opposite sides of the same land mass.

But they will be blissfully unaware of each other’s existence, until they collide.

The female group – Alice, Shaney, Sarah, Erica, Roz, Tilly and Cassie (Channel 4)

Launching series three, Bear Grylls explained: “We wanted to take this season to the next level and putting men and women together was the natural progression.

“It is easy to assume that this will turn into a battle of the sexes – but in truth it is much deeper than that and is a battle for survival. That’s not about gender or how big and tough someone may look, that’s about mental strength and character.”

Last year, there were male and female groups – but they each had their own Pacific Island to roam. This time around, “mixing it up big time” will result in some “interesting dynamics”, Bear hinted.

The survivalist teased: “All I’ll say is that it’s inevitable, when you put men and women together, that there are going to be some interesting dynamics that you won’t get so much of in a single sex group.”

He added: “We’re mixing it big time. People have said ‘Oh my God, if you put men and women on an island together, it’s going to be carnage’.

“And in many ways it was carnage, but not always in the way you might expect. The outcome was very affirming by the end, but at times painful to watch.

A Muslim has left The Island with Bear Grylls – saying seeing girl co-stars in bikinis was an affront to his faith.

Rizwan Shabir, 27, storms off tonight’s episode of the C4 survival series after the half-naked women got too much for him.

Female hopefuls including rugby streaker Erika Roe, camerawomen Sarah Carnie and Zoe Hines and barmaid Tilly Martin have all worn just their swimsuits on the show.

But phone shop owner Shabir decided to quit the series fronted by Grylls, above, after 11 days.

Explaining his decision the Bradford man said: “It’s the hardest thing I’ve done in my life. I’m struggling. I’m around women who are half naked, which in my religion I shouldn’t really be.”

As a practising Muslim Shabir was shown taking time away from his fellow contestants and praying five times a day on the island.

Grylls with Kate Winslet in another of his adventure shows.

He also admitted in the first episode how he hoped to be a positive role model for his community on TV, saying: “I think I’ve got a lot to prove.”

It’s another blow for the show as last week saw war heroine Corporal Hannah Campbell, 31, leave the programme after she suffered post-traumatic stress disorder and flashbacks following a storm.

She told The Sun: “This is a seriously dangerous show.”

Soap star Michelle Collins and former England footballer Stuart Pearce are among the seven celebrities who have signed up for Bear Grylls: Mission Survive.

Michelle made her name as Cindy Beale in BBC One’s EastEnders and played Coronation Street landlady Stella Price from 2011-2014.

The footballer, 53, was known to millions of fans by the nickname Psycho due to his uncompromising style of play. He is best remembered for his playing days at Nottingham Forest, though he has also been a manager.

The ITV series, presented by Bear, will see the seven celebrities battle through the wilds of Africa on a 12-day survival expedition.

They will be pushed to their psychological and physical limits in order to see who has the qualities needed to become Bear’s mission survivor.

In addition to Michelle and Stuart, Grantchester actor Neil Morrissey, Les Miserables actress Samantha Barks and Casualty’s Chelsee Healey will join Arsenal and England Ladies footballer Alex Scott and choreographer Jason Gardiner, best known for being the acerbic judge on ITV’s Dancing On Ice, have all signed up.

It may not have been a competition, but the final of The Island with Bear Grylls had one clear winner – the women.

The gang have suffered many setbacks over their month-long spell on the island, including infected lacerations, semi-starvation, fatigue and cliff-top falls.

The men rested at the camp in various states of collapse, immobilised by funny turns and feeling faint.

The 200-calorie meal of snails and limpets was hastily devoured with a hefty side of snark as Bear Grylls pronounced it “nowhere near enough to halt the men’s physical decline”.

The dire situation forced Simon to announce: “I don’t know how much longer I can last doing this, I’m at a loss”, before adding gloomily: “I’m the worst Robinson Crusoe in history, I think.”

Lucky it’s the final then, eh Simon.

Thankfully an alligator turned up which meant the men could stop moaning and revel in their manliness.

Ten brave celebrities have signed up for the ultimate survival challenge in aid of Channel 4′s Stand Up To Cancer.

That challenge? Taking on The Island with Bear Grylls in a special four-part series. Yikes.

The ten famous faces, including The Only Way Is Essex star Lydia Bright, JLS singer Aston Merrygold and former Blue Peter presenter Zoe Salmon, gave up their showbiz lifestyles for two weeks in an intense Island experience.

Made in Chelsea’s Ollie Locke, comedian Dom Joly, The Hotel star Mark Jenkins, rugby ace Thom Evans, Channel 4′s Dr Dawn Harper, former Labour councillor Karen Danczuk and comedian Josie Long made up the famous group.

Aiming to survive with just the clothes on their back, basic tools, medical supplies and 24 hours-worth of water, the ten celebrities made the island their home as they tackled the task head on.

The special survival challenge will air as part of Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK’s joint fundraising campaign, Stand Up To Cancer, this October.

If that wasn’t enough, Stand Up To Cancer has also teamed up with Bear Grylls Survival Race for a huge fundraising challenge designed by Bear himself, with a series of mud runs, obstacle races and of course, survivial tests.

The Wanted’s Max George is thought to be enlisting the help of Jason Derulo as he sets about launching his solo career.

The Wanted went on hiatus back in 2014, with members of the band since going on to other things - Nathan Sykes, for example, has launched his own solo career, and Jay McGuiness won last year’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

Max has also dabbled in a few things, from a role on TV show ‘Glee’ to taking part in ITV show ‘Bear Grylls: Mission Survive’.

Now though, it seems his focus is on his debut solo record, with reports claiming he’s been working on new material in an LA studio with Jason Derulo for the past month.

A source told The Mirror: “Max is delighted that a big name like Jason has got on board with the album.

“He feels that the time is right to share his music with the world and wants the quality to be top notch. He’s hoping to burst back on to the scene with a huge, catchy hit, but there will be edgy, raw songs too.

Bear Grylls: Mission Survive winner Alex Scott has said she would “grab” the opportunity to take part in Strictly Come Dancing.

The England footballer, who also captains Arsenal Ladies, proved herself the ultimate survivor on ITV’s uncompromising survival expedition in Africa, led by Grylls.

The Northern Ireland-born adventurer pushed Scott, Jason Gardiner from Dancing On Ice and actress Samantha Barks to their psychological and physical limits in Thursday’s final.

“When I reflect on the show, it was the most amazing, incredible adventure ever,” 31-year-old Scott said. “Just thinking about it brings a smile to my face even though at times I was terrified. I faced my fears, but we did some horrible stuff.”

The challenging tasks included drinking their own urine, eating a fish eye, diving off high drops and, perhaps worst of all, a rectal rehydration.

An alternative method of replacing fluids in the body without having to drink dirty water, it made for wince-inducing television.

When asked about undergoing the rectal rehydration, Scott said the celebrities wanted to live up to Grylls’ expectations.

“So much was thrown at us – we were tired, we were hungry – and then when Bear showed us that, we were all like: ‘Is this real?’” I think at that stage, we thought we were all dreaming. But that is a serious message for anyone in a survival situation – it’s a tool you can use.”

Over the years, Bear Grylls has made quite a name for himself – a name that’s now pretty much synonymous with drinking urine. And Thursday’s instalment of Mission Survive was no different.

Well, it was a little in the sense that it was poo, not wee. Oh, and it was from an elephant.

After gazing lovingly at some wild majestic elephants in their natural South African habitat, Bear informed the remaining four celebs on his survival challenge that they were about to taste the delights that came out of its rear.

He announced he’d pre-boiled some for them to make sure there was no bacteria – how thoughtful – and Michelle Collins, Jason Gardiner, Samantha Barks and Alex Scott took it in turns to slurp on the murky liquid.

And to put it mildly, viewers weren’t exactly jealous.
