The Jungle Book is getting an upgrade this spring from nostalgic animated classic to live-action heart-pounder, and ET is taking you behind the scenes of the highly anticipated movie.

The reimagining of the film based on Rudyard Kipling's collection of stories follows Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who's been raised by a family of wolves. Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle, however, when the fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voiced by Idris Elba), sees him as a threat.

Even with all the special effects, the heart of the movie comes from its dynamic performances.

"As with all of my films, I always have to have the right cast," director Jon Favreau says.

Along with Elba and Sethi, that cast includes Sir Ben Kingsley (Bagheera), Scarlett Johansson (Kaa), Christopher Walken (King Louie), Bill Murray (Baloo), Lupita Nyong'o (Raksha) and Giancarlo Esposito (Akela).

Look, Walking Dead fans, there’s just no way around it: Someone — maybe more than one someone — is gonna die before the Season 6 finale ends, and all hints point to it, or they, being a major member of Rick Grimes’s group.

Rick himself, star Andrew Lincoln, has even said he was made physically ill by the events of the Season 6 ender, so we know some serious, even tragic events go down upon the much ballyhooed arrival of TWD baddie Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the leader of the Saviors who will make his debut in the final episode of the season (and possibly even before).

DENISE and TARA - 75%

Tara and Denise have settled into a happy relationship after that traumatic battle with the pit walkers in the midseason premiere… which automatically puts them on the potential tragic ending hitlist. Add to that the fact that Tara told Denise she loves her, that Denise didn’t say it back, and that Tara just survived the first battle with the Saviors and is now off on a two-week supply run, and it’s just not looking good for both fierce women to see Season 7, sadly.

ABRAHAM - 60%

This one would hurt bad, not only because Abraham Ford is essentially the smooth-tongued poet of the apocalypse, but also because he’s finally decided “to make some plays, before the great cosmic Pete comes to cut my throat unceremoniously and I gurgle my last breath.” He, harshly, dumped Rosita so he could be free to make a serious play for Sasha, and you know what happens when a survivor in the apocalypse makes plans… the storytelling gods laugh. And, as TWD comics readers know, the arrival of the Saviors spells tragedy for Mr. Ford in the books.

GLENN - 50%

It’s almost too much to bear to even think it’s still a possibility that Glenn would die at this point, what with Dumpstergate earlier in the season, and that other near death when he was pinned up against the wall while trying to save Maggie during the battle with the walker herd in the midseason premiere. He’s about to become a father, and his friendship with Enid has showcased there’s really no one in the group who’ll make a better dad than Glenn, but there’s no denying issue 100 of the comics — a classic storyline so well known we’re not spoiling anything at this point — when Glenn’s sweet noggin meets Lucille, the brutal, barbed wire-covered bat of ultimate TWD baddie Negan.

MORGAN - 35%

“Here’s Not Here,” the Season 6 episode that unfolded the backstory of Morgan’s friendship with Eastman and his new, anti-killing philosophy, remains one of the best episodes of the series, and Morgan Jones is one of the great supporting characters of TWD. But while lots of characters have shared Morgan’s idealistic view of how to survive in the post-apocalyptic world without killing other humans, none have clung to it so stubbornly as Morgan, who has nearly cost several of his friends their lives because of his attitude. The thing Morgan has yet to acknowledge: Eastman’s way of life was possible because he lived off in the woods, away from the constant threat of attacks by walkers or other humans. Can Morgan realize compromise is necessary — like Glenn and Heath had to in last week’s “Not Tomorrow Yet” — before it’s too late for him… or another beloved Alexandrian?

MAGGIE - 25%

Maggie’s storyline in Seasons 5 and 6 has been a slow build into her evolution as a true leader who’s savvy, confident, and brave enough to stand up to, and get the best of, a blustery bully like Hilltop’s Gregory. She and Glenn have also committed themselves to not only surviving, but thriving and trying to build a new life (literally and figuratively) in the new world. So, again, that thing about making plans and storytelling gods laughing? Yeah.

DARYL - 25%

Has the great Daryl Dixon run out of storyline? Does Jesus possess a lot of the same skills as Daryl, making Mr. Dixon expendable? Does beloved TWD star Norman Reedus have a new series, a reality show in which he’ll travel across the country on his motorcycle, premiering on AMC later this year? Those are among the bits of evidence cited in discussions about a possible Daryl death — not to mention that comment from Reedus’s BFF Andy Lincoln about how crushing the season finale is. All we know for sure is this: Yes, Reedus does have a new series coming, and Daryl Dixon is definitely not replaceable as a member of Rick’s group. Oh, and that, as has always been promised, there will be some rioting should Daryl meet his own cosmic Pete.

CAROL - 10%

Ms. Peletier remains one tough chica, ready and able to do what needs to be done to protect her loved ones. But it’s starting to get to her, all the death, as we saw with her Moleskine list of all the people she’s killed as a member of Rick’s group. A woman can only bake so many batches of beet acorn cookies before she just loses her s–t, and Carol appears to be on the edge. Now that she and Maggie are in the clutches of the Saviors who survived Rick’s group’s first attack, and Morgan’s pacifist philosophies are taking up real estate in her head, Carol’s in more danger than she’s ever been in before.

MICHONNE - 5%

Is there a significant chance Michonne will fall victim to Negan (and Lucille) or some other Savior? Probably not. But two things to consider, if only to prepare yourself that there’s any possibility of such an unspeakable loss: 1) The other two females who’ve attracted the attention and love of Mr. Rick Grimes are now sleeping with the walkers, and 2) The fantastically multi-talented Michonne portrayer Danai Gurira has not only a thriving TV career, but is a successful playwright with current productions on Broadway and off-Broadway (including one starring Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o), and a major movie role as Afeni Shakur in the upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me. Just sayin’.

Leonardo DiCaprio is officially more popular than selfies.

According to Fortune, the actor’s Oscar win for his role in The Revenant was the most tweeted Academy Awards moment in Twitter history — far surpassing the previous most-tweeted moment: Ellen DeGeneres’s star-studded selfie from the 2014 Oscars.

The previous record holder. (Photo: Bradley Cooper)

At its peak performance, that famous Samsung-sponsored selfie — which included the A-list likes of Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyong’o, Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, and Jennifer Lawrence, among others — was racking up 255,000 tweets per minute. But Leo Dio’s big moment? A whopping 440,000.

There may not be a trophy for getting that kind of social media frenzy (well, not that we’re aware of), but just know that we’re proud of ya, Mr. DiCaprio — and we aren’t afraid to tell the whole world. In 140 characters or fewer, of course.

The lack of diversity among the nominees for the Academy Awards 2016 has sparked an unprecedented debate about race in the film industry.

None of the picks for the best actor and actress and best supporting actor and actress categories are from an ethnic minority.

The hashtag #OscarSoWhite, an online campaign from the previous year, has become a rallying cry for dissatisfied film stars and fans.

In response to the controversy, actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith will boycott the ceremony alongside director Spike Lee.

Others including actors George Clooney, Mark Ruffalo, Lupita Nyong’o, David Oyelowo, Viola Davis and British director Steve McQueen have spoken of their disappointment with the lack of diversity among the nominees.

Selma director Ava DuVernay has just been set by Disney to direct A Wrinkle In Time, an adaptation of the 1963 Newbery Medal-winning Madeleine L’Engle fantasy classic novel that has a script by Oscar-winning Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee. Deadline revealed February 8 that DuVernay had been offered this film and was also in the mix at DreamWorks for Intelligent Life, a sci-fi thriller scripted by Colin Trevorrow and his Jurassic World collaborator Derek Connolly.

DuVernay now has the offer on that film and is in negotiations on a pic that has 12 Years A Slave Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o attached to a fable about a UN worker in a department designed to represent mankind if there was ever contact with aliens, who falls for a mystery woman who turns out to be one. That film is produced by Frank Marshall, Trevorrow and Big Beach principals Peter Saraf and Marc Turtletaub.

It is unclear which film will go first, but A Wrinkle in Time was first to close and it is the culmination of six months of courtship by Disney Motion Pictures president Sean Bailey and exec Tendo Nagenda.

The cast of Zoolander 2 have posed for a picture using the longest selfie stick ever made.

But the endeavour, during the film’s premiere in London on Thursday night, turned out to be a bit of a damp squib.

The shot, snapped by Ben Stiller, is a raggle-taggle mess of squinty faces, people looking in the wrong direction, and way too much of Leicester Square’s grotty pavement.

Yes Stiller, you broke a world record – but at what cost?

If you look closely, you can just make out the film’s stars Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Penelope Cruz and writer Justin Theroux. Somehow Myleene Klass also made the front row too.

To be fair to Stiller, a video of him taking the shot shows he was using perhaps the bendiest stick in the world – particularly unhelpful during windy conditions.

If you need some advice on how to do a celebrity group selfie, learn from the masters.

Ellen DeGeneres broke the internet with her 2014 Oscars selfie that featured A-listers Brad and Ange, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Lupita Nyong’o and Meryl Streep, among others.

For most of us, there comes a time when our wardrobe begins to bore us to tears. If you’re facing down a closet full of clothes, yet whining that you have “nothing to wear,” it’s not your wardrobe that’s lacking — it’s inspiration. So we’re looking to some of our favorite celebs to wake up our wardrobe with cool, easy-to-copy outfits.

J.J. Abrams directs Daisy Ridley in ‘The Force Awakens’ (Lucasfilm/Disney)

J.J. Abrams never intended to guide Star Wars fans in the wrong direction.

The writer-director says — spoiler alert! — that while trailers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens feature footage and dialogue that didn’t ultimately end up in the final cut of the movie, the discrepancies weren’t meant to throw anyone off.

“It’s a fairly common occurrence when you’re working on a movie, and it’s a year or six months out,” said Abrams. “We were still editing, refining and adjusting the film. That evolution process is something that’s hard to predict.”

CALL FROM LIGHT

Star Wars fans flipped their Stormtrooper helmets when a pair of beams flared out from the side of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver)’s lightsaber in the first teaser trailer. However, The Force Awakens doesn’t actually feature the moment when the masked baddie ignites his flickering lightsaber hilt.

IT’LL GUIDE YOU

In the second trailer, Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o) is seen passing a lightsaber to another woman. But it’s Finn (John Boyega) who takes it from her yellow hand in the movie. Abrams acknowledged that after Maz Kanata’s castle is leveled by the First Order, the big-eyed buccaneer originally traveled to the Resistance’s base to hand off Luke Skywalker’s signature weapon to his sister, Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher).

The MTV Movie Awards tend to deliver a good share of gaffes (“Catching Fires" — yeah, we heard that one, Cameron Diaz) and guffaws, like Mark Wahlberg’s rambling acceptance speech for the show’s Generation Award, but aside from a few brow-lifting moments, this year’s fête was a bit of a snooze compared to past shows.

James Bond star Daniel Craig is about to become fully-fledged film royalty as he’s set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year.

The British actor, 50, is among a new batch of A-list stars, including Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway, to be honoured with the accolade in 2019.

“Congratulations to Daniel Craig who has been selected as one of the recipients of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2019,” tweeted the official James Bond Twitter account.

Other people to receive stars next year are Oscar-winning Shape of Water director Guillermo del Toro and Star Wars actress Lupita Nyong’o.

Tyler Perry, Alan Arkin and Gena Rowlands make up the Motion Pictures category.

Musicians including Pink, Michael Buble, Faith Hill, Teddy Riley and Cypress Hill will receive honours in the music category.

Chairman and Walk Of Famer Vin Di Bona said: “The Walk Of Fame Selection Committee is pleased to announce our newest honourees to the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

“The committee always tries to select a group of talented honourees that appeal in various genres of the entertainment world.

“I feel the committee has outdone themselves and I know the fans, tourists and the Hollywood community will be pleased with our selections. We are excited to see each and every honouree’s face as they unveil that majestic star on Hollywood’s most famous walkway.”

Craig is gearing up to shoot what is expected to be his final Bond film with director Danny Boyle, which is scheduled for release next year.

The Slumdog Millionaire director appeared to let the cat out of the bag back in March, when he revealed that he had been working on a script for Bond.

Speaking to Metro US at the premiere of drama Trust he said: “We are working on a script right now. And it all depends on that really.

“I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to start shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks.

Craig is set to hang up his black jacket after the November 2019 release, with the rumour mill about his replacement in full swing.

The vivid first trailer for Disney’s true-life story “Queen of Katwe” is here, hitting the web on Tuesday.

Aside from featuring the familiar faces of Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, the trailer is filled with expressive first-timers including Madina Nalwanga, who plays Phiona Mutesi in the film.

The colorful trailer first opens with a quote from Liberian president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on a black background: “The size of your dreams must always exceed your current capacity to achieve them.”

Nyong’o plays Harriet Mutesi, mother of a young Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi. Oyelowo plays Robert Katende, a missionary who teaches local children how to play chess. After seeing Phiona’s potential Katende mentors her to become a chess world champion, overcoming her impoverished background.

“Sometimes the place you are used to is not the place you belong. You belong where you believe you belong,” says Katende to a young Phiona Mutesi.

Nyong’o recently spoke about Ugandan culture, telling Entertainment Weekly, “There is an ease in the Ugandan demeanor that is very welcoming. I love the melody of the accent, the food, the music and the people’s inherent style. There was a familiarity with my home country being right next door but also complete surprise in what was so different.”

“There is a resilience of spirit in Uganda. The slum of Katwe is a very difficult place to live, but you see these people living there with dignity. To go there and to have that environment to work from really did give life and meaning to our work. It was research, obstacle and inspiration,” she added.

Nyong’o is currently performing her Tony Award-nominated role in “Eclipsed” and last lended her voice for the role of Raksha in “The Jungle Book.” Oyelowo last starred in this year’s “Nina” with Zoe Saldana.

“Why would such a big star choose to do such a small play?”

Lupita Nyong’o was recently asked this question by a journalist interviewing her about Eclipsed, the Broadway drama that earned Nyong’o her first Tony Award nomination earlier today. As the actress explains in an essay that appears in the new issue of Lenny, the newsletter/magazine published by Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, she chose to do this “small play” because it gave her an opportunity to “share in the incredible (and too rare) freedom of playing a fully rendered African woman.”

“So often women of color are relegated to playing simple tropes: the sidekick, the best friend, the noble savage, or the clown,”writes Nyong’o, who won an Oscar in 2015 for 12 Years a Slave. “We are confined to being a simple and symbolic peripheral character — one who doesn’t have her own journey or emotional landscape.”

Her words echo many of the sentiments expressed in a recent Vulture essay that asks why so many prominent black actors have been cast in film roles that obscure their appearances. Pointing to people like Nyong’o and Idris Elba, both have whom have recently played parts that either rely solely on their voices or obscure their appearances, Kyle Buchanan writes, “Perhaps it’s just another symptom of Hollywood’s current failure when it comes to actors of color: If movie studios continue to treat black faces as an onscreen rarity, it’s not much of a jump for those same stars to then be deemed exotic-looking and alien.” Of Nyong’o specifically, he says, “since her Oscar win, no white director has cast her in a live-action role that lets her live in her own black skin.”

In her Lenny essay Nyong’o addresses her motion-capture and voice work in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Jungle Book, saying, “I think sometimes a singular catharsis can be found in genre storytelling — as I found when playing a thousand-year-old woman (Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and a wolf mother (Raksha in The Jungle Book).” But she adds, “I’m able to be more engaged in roles such as those than I would be in playing ‘the wife’ when she is written with no motivation or singularity.”

Hollywood stars, music moguls and fashion models strutted tech-inspired glam at the Met Gala Monday, working their friend-of-fashion poses on the giant staircase of the "Oscars of the East".

From pop icons Beyonce, to Lady Gaga, and a cheeky Madonna, to a goth-looking Taylor Swift, and almost unrecognizably intergalactic Katy Perry, it was the most glamorous night of the year in a city that likes to dress up.

Supermodel Gigi Hadid posed with pop star significant other Zayn Malik, who wore a metallic arm contraption.

Hollwood heavy hitters Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp and Bradley Cooper, also turned out looking more old-school than sci-fi.

Hosted by American Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the benefit brought out stars of film, television, fashion, politics and sports: from Lupita Nyong'o with a towering hairdo, to Kim Kardashian posing away in a metallic outfit that looked ready for NASA.

In line with the technology theme, there was an abundance of black and metallics, cutouts, thigh-high boots and a few people in princess dresses who did not know there was a theme.

The gala, held the first Sunday in May, raises money for the Met's Costume Institute. It picks out a theme each year and attendees are encouraged to embrace it and run with it.

This year, the theme was "Manus X Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology," which is also the title of the Costume Institute's big annual exhibition opening May 5.

"Fashion and technology are inextricably connected, more so now than ever before," said Thomas Campbell, director and CEO of the Met.

"It is therefore timely to examine the roles that the handmade and the machine-made have played in the creative process. Often presented as oppositional, this exhibition proposes a new view in which the hand and the machine are mutual and equal protagonists."

- About 600 guests -

Fashion fan actresses Zoe Sandana and Blake Lively were among those sweeping up the staircase to the gala; the event costs 30,000 dollars a ticket, or 275,000 dollars for a whole table.

After dinner, there was dancing with guests such as designers Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra, Tory Burch, Christopher Bailey, Marc Jacobs and Prabal Gurung.

Then there was Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman, Emma Stone, Dakota Fanning, Kate Hudson -- as well as Monaco's Princess Charlotte Casiraghi beside actor-musician Jared Leto.

Actresses Mindy Kaling, Kerry Washington, Lena Dunham and Sarah Jessica Parker went for black or white; and models Naomi Campbell, Karlie Kloss, Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, all took time to wow the crowd.

Singers Bette Midler and Nicki Minaj both went for almost sci-fi black.

After the red carpet, the press is sent packing to keep a hint of mystery alive. Guests are asked not to post anything on social networks.

Actress Lupita Nyong'o will be a fiercely protective parent, just like her new The Jungle Book wolf mother character.

The 12 Years a Slave star plays wolf den mum Raksha, who raises jungle orphan Mowgli as her own in director Jon Favreau's new movie adaptation of the classic Rudyard Kipling tale, and she reveals her maternal instinct kicked in as she prepared for the challenging role.

She points anyone interested in what she'll be like as a mother to the film, insisting her parenting style will be close to her character's.

"I always fantasised about motherhood," the Yale University educated actress revealed during an appearance on Live! with Kelly and Michael on Thursday (14Apr16). "I loved to babysit my cousins. I just loved children since I was really young. I think I'm going to be fiercely enamoured with my child.

"I don't think I'm going to be able to take my eyes off of my child. I feel like I'm going to be extremely protective because I'm protective of my friends' babies and children. I'm very protective already."

She has a big family to draw from when she does start thinking about starting a family - Lupita is one of six kids born to a former college professor and politician and a communications entrepreneur, who the Mexican-Kenyan star looked to for inspiration as she created her The Jungle Book character.

Disney has given the Lupita Nyong’o chess drama “Queen of Katwe” an awards-season release date with a limited launch on Sept. 23, followed by a Sept. 30 expansion.

“Queen of Katwe” is directed by Mira Nair (“Monsoon Wedding”) from a screenplay by William Wheeler (“The Hoax”) based on Tim Crothers’ book “The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess and One Extraordinary Girl’s Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster.” David Oyelowo and newcomer Madina Nalwanga are also starring in the film.

The story follows a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess. She receives support from her family and community, and is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion.

Nyong’o is playing the mother of Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi, who is portrayed by Nalwanga. Robert Katende, who helped train Mutesi, is portrayed by Oyelowo.

Lupita Nyong'o continued her streak of looking absolutely amazing all the time at the premiere of Disney's The Jungle Book on Monday.

The Oscar winner looked absolutely stunning on the red carpet outside the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, wearing a custom J. Crew lime green top and a shimmering, swinging, multi-slit metallic skirt.

The 33-year-old star later covered up against the crisp evening air in a denim jacket, and posed with her 12-year-old co-star, Neel Sethi.

Nyong'o spoke with ET's Cameron Mathison at the premiere where she opened up about her connection to the beloved original animated Jungle Book from 1967, and even sang some of the film's iconic tune, "The Bare Necessities."

"Jungle Book was definitely a part of my childhood," Nyong'o shared. "I loved Mowgli and the freedom with which he seemed to live his life. He'd swing from vine to vine and he had all these cool animal friends and he went on an adventure to find out where he belonged. And I just really identified with that and wished that I could experience such freedom."
