Tamara Ecclestone

Despite the backlash Formula 1 heiress Tamara received for two recent breastfeeding selfies, she’s brought the ‘brelfie’ back with this lovely photo. Tamara Ecclestone

Tamara Ecclestone posted two stunning snapshots of her breastfeeding her daughter Sophia while on holiday. But sadly the Formula 1 heiress was slammed for oversharing, with some of her Instagram fans telling her the pics were 'gross’ and there was no need for her to post images of her ’t**** hanging out’.  [Instagram/Tamara Ecclestone]

Nicole Trunfio

Australian supermodel Nicole Trunfio has appeared on the June 2015 cover of Elle Australia, breastfeeding her four-month-old son Zion. The photo marks the first time the magazine has realised a breastfeeding front cover. But TV presenter Sonia Kruger has hit out at the mag’s editor, Justine Cullen, saying she 'wussed out’ for only using this photo on the glossy’s subscription issue. Nicole shared the cover on her Instagram page, writing, 'There is nothing more powerful and beautiful than motherhood. The last thing I want to do is be controversial, so please take this for what it is, let us #normalizebreastfeeding. There is nothing worse than a mother that is judged for feeding her hungry child in public #weareonlyhuman. I’m so proud of this cover and for what it stands for. I obviously don’t look like this while I am breastfeeding but this stands for all women out there, whether you breastfeed or not, we gave birth, we are women, we are mothers. Thank you to ELLE for being so bold and making such an encouraging, positive and healthy statement. #womenunite" [Instagram/Nicole Trunfio]

It’s no secret that there are a lot of opinions circulating when it comes to mothers breastfeeding in public.

Recently, a mother was targeted in McDonald’s and by a friend, no less, who sent her a message accusing her of molestation after witnessing the mother nursing at her table. Outraged, the mom posted the text on Facebook where it was picked up by the Young Breastfeeding Mommas page.

“I saw you today at McDonalds with your boy friend and baby,” the text begins.

“He is really adorable. But I saw you were breastfeeding your son and that was very inappropriate and gross I’m sorry hun but nobody wants to see that and it really made me angry that you were doing that okay I had my bf and my 6 year old brother with me and my brother does not need to see that nor does my bf.”

She then goes on to explain that boys do not need to be breast fed, claiming that doing so is abusive.

“… boys don’t need to breast feed you should have your son taken from you because that’s child molestation! I should report you to child welfare so you just give him formula or pump if you think he needs it.”

“He don’t need it he us [sic] already fat like his dad formula is better and easyer [sic]!!!! And if you can’t afford it stay off your back!”

A few days ago, Naomi Jael Covert posted an Instagram photo of her at a wedding reception. The photo has since been liked more than 3,500 times and has more than 250 comments. It was also reposted on empoweredbirthproject’s Instagram, where it’s garnered an additional 13,000 likes.

The reason? In the photo, the mom was breastfeeding her 10-month-old son, TJ.

Instagram/mrsz.covert

Since it’s not the first time Covert has posted breastfeeding photos, she told BuzzFeed News she was “shocked” when she woke up the next morning to see the post had gone viral.

“I made the silly face because it’s literally not a big deal to feed your baby,” the 21-year-old said. “It’s just a breast; that’s what God gave me to use when baby is hungry.”

She told BuzzFeed she’s well aware that lots of moms are scared to breastfeed in public, especially at big events like a wedding.

“I wanted to show that it’s literally no big deal to breastfeed, no matter the circumstances,” she said.

Since posting the photo, Covert has received tons of positive comments.

“You go girl. it’s disgusting how society portrays it as disgusting.”

Spanish artist Claudia Sahuquillo has decided to embrace nudity and swap out her pen and paper for the human body.

She has started a series called Skin is the New Canvas on Instagram to break the stigma around naked bodies and empower nudity.

Her amazing body art has become a phenomenon on Instagram and already earned her 50k followers.

Through her series she hopes to celebrate biological factors as unique, highlighting people’s imperfections, birthmarks, one brush stroke at a time.

It’s all about body positivity and creativity. Using many of the same themes and patterns she uses the contours of the body to enhance her artwork.

Despite strict Instagram rules about nudity – that don’t allow photos of women breastfeeding – she regularly shares images of painted nipples.

Her public show in Barcelona has up to 20 people a day showing up to support her campaign to de-stigmatise nudity.

Photo: University of the Sunshine Coast/Facebook

Jacci Sharkey juggled motherhood and schoolwork for most of her three and a half years at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) in Queensland, Australia. So the 24-year-old mother of two thought it only fitting to thank the university for supporting her and her family (who sometimes even went to lectures with her) by sharing a photo in which she was breastfeeding her then-6-week-old son Alek in her cap and gown, just before the graduation ceremony.

"I’m extremely proud that with the support of the uni, during my degree I was able to have 2 babies and still finish my degree," Sharkey explained in a note with the Oct. 2 photo. “Thanks USC!”

Now the school can thank her for shining the spotlight on them. Since the university posted her photo on Facebook on Nov. 2, it’s gone viral, with 184,000 likes and more than 5,400 shares.

"I thought I’d be really happy if it got 100 likes, and then it’s just gone out of control," the human resources management major, whose other son, Ari, is 20 months old, told Australia’s ABC News. “I never expected it to go crazy!”

Also unexpected was the idea that she had sent it to promote breastfeeding. “It wasn’t a statement [on breastfeeding] or anything like that,” Sharkey insisted. “I would have sent the same picture to the uni had [Alek] had a bottle or a sandwich.”

The thought she wanted to share was “just the fact that I’m a mum, it’s not I’m a breastfeeding mum, just I’m a mum,” she explained. “It was really a message of thanks and that other mums can do it as well.”

Elaborating to the Daily Mail Australia, Sharkey — who currently works as a wedding and events planner — declared, “You don’t have to give up the career to have kids, and you don’t have to give up kids to have the career … you can have it all.”

Nevertheless, the photo has been a boon to breastfeeding proponents. “Breastfeeding moms feel excited about seeing that,” La Leche League’s Diana West tells Yahoo Parenting. “In our world, breastfeeding is not considered acceptable everywhere. It’s changing a lot, but it’s still an adjustment for a lot of people to accept. A picture like this shows that this is normal. And it’s a cool way to show her bringing together her two worlds.”

With all the recent celebrity breastfeeding photo shares on social media, including ones from Alyssa Milano, Jaime King, and Gisele Bündchen, West says she’s not surprised that Sharkey’s went viral. “It’s breasts,” she admits. “They’re always going to be sexualized and get notice, but this image still serves the breastfeeding cause well because the more we talk about it, the more we discuss the issues around it.”

Coco Austin is giving fans a close look at her incredible post-baby body.

The 37-year-old new mom dons a barely-there red lingerie ensemble in a picture posted to her Instagram on Thursday.

"2016 I'm coming back with a vengeance #personalgoals," Coco wrote in the caption. "New CocoLicious Lingerie!!"

In a second composite post, Coco rocks several revealing items from her CocoLicious Lingerie line.

"Coming soon!" Coco wrote. "We took your suggestions and made my lingerie even hotter in the next collection!"

The shots should quiet the naysayers and body shamers who spoke out against the model after she gave birth to her first child with husband Ice-T, daughter Chanel Nicole, in November.

Coco has documented her fitness journey following Chanel's birth with frequent Instagram posts -- each one more flattering than the last.

In February, she shared a selfie of herself playing double duty - waist training while catering to her newborn.

"Training and watching my baby simultaneously. The Coco way," she wrote at the time. "Loving motherhood."

Earlier this month, she announced the start of her "gym grind" after a year off from any serious training.

"I stopped going [to the gym] pretty much a year ago when I got pregnant with Chanel," Coco captioned the pic of her flashing her abs. "Well, 4 months after delivering her I have had no motivation because all I want to do is use my time to raise my baby and watch her grow. I don't want to be separated from her at all..plus I can't be too long cause I still breastfeed."

Coco wrote that her post-baby workout routine consisted of a three-hour trip to the gym with baby Chanel in tow.

"I wanted to take a selfie afterward (seen here) to really see what I need to work on and surprising I liked what I saw," she wrote. "I did eat really good through my pregnancy and now I can speak on it and say this is proof that with a decent diet and no gym your body can still stay somewhat together after a baby..I literally had a big bowl of mixed fruit everyday which I give credit to."

A photographer has extended her series on working breastfeeding mums [Photo: Instagram/tararubyphotography]

Last year photographer Tara Ruby created a photo series of military mums breastfeeding their children that she hoped it might help normalise breastfeeding for those working in the armed forces.

Not only did the release of the pictures light a match under the whole breastfeeding in public debate, but it also encouraged other mums to get in touch to share their own breastfeeding journeys. So, overwhelmed by the response, Tara was inspired to create a whole series around women breastfeeding while doing their day job.

The new pictures of working mums nursing their children, include a veteran ‘tandem feeding’ her two kids, a Las Vegas showgirl dressed in full costume, a nurse and a teacher.

The pictures feature a teacher, nurse, Las Vegas showgirl and air woman [Photos: Instagram/tararubyphotography]

Discussing the powerful photo series with Cosmopolitan, Tara explained that the nurse was one of her favourite images to capture.

“The nurse I absolutely love,” she said. “I thought it was really funny, because it shows just how crazy it is when you start nursing an older child. The whole time she had to have her foot up in mom’s face! 'This is exactly what she does every time we nurse,’ she told me.”

The release of the new pictures come as it was revealed this week that an unidentified New Mexico firefighter could face disciplinary action after a picture of his wife breastfeeding their infant son wearing his uniform was posted online by Tara.

But Tara is keen to ensure that the controversy surrounding the photo doesn’t cloud the message behind the series.

“The intention has been since the very beginning to show that a mum can be a full-time mum and still work a full-time job and do both equally at the same time,” she explained.

“I feel like sometimes people have to make that decision between going back to work full-time and staying at home so they can breastfeed full-time.”

Kristin Cavallari takes her mommy duties seriously.

The 29-year-old took to Instagram this week to post a photo of herself poolside in a striped bikini holding up her breast pump.

"Thank you @inspirato for this gorgeous view while I pump #DutyCalls #Inspirato," she captioned the fun pic while vacationing.

Inspirato resorts have locations all over the world, but the shoe designer's locale seems extra sunny this time of year. The mother of three already looked nicely tanned.

This isn't the first time The Hills alum has posted a photo of herself pumping.

In March the Balancing in Heels author Instagrammed a shot of herself dolled up while pumping milk, writing, "The glamorous side of the #BalancinginHeels #BookTour."

Cavallari recently opened up to ET about her maternal duties and taking care of her baby daughter, Saylor.

"I'm done having kids," she told ET. "I got my girl, I'm good. We did it quick… I'm looking forward to giving away my maternity stuff and breast pump. My girlfriends are all getting pregnant now."

Celebrity chef Sandra Lee is back to the grind after beating cancer last year.

The Food Network star took a healthy and happy selfie in the car on the way to shoot with Bobby Flay on Tuesday.

"First day back on set am shooting with @bobbyflay," she captioned the pic. "Nice to be with my brother."

Lee underwent a double mastectomy last May after being diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015. The 51-year-old suffered a setback in August when complications from her surgery left her hospitalized with an infection, but in September she opened up to ET's Nancy O'Dell about being cancer free.

"I would make that decision again," Lee said of her surgery. "Absolutely, even given the complications and the secondary infection. There is no question in my mind. [I'm] relieved that there is no cancer left in my body and I just want to move on with my life."

Lee also credited her longtime boyfriend, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, for being her rock throughout her battle with cancer and recovery from the mastectomy.

Another story of a mum feeling shamed for breastfeeding her baby in public has hit the headlines [Photo: Rex Features]

Another day, another mum made to feel she’s boobed for breastfeeding in public.

As any new mum will tell you, when your baby needs feeding, they NEED FEEDING. And if you happen to be having lunch in a restaurant then so be it.

So when Carla Francome’s baby son started grizzling that he was hungry as she dined in a popular pizza chain she thought nothing of lifting her T-Shirt to breastfeed him. That was until she was “reprimanded” for doing so.

The freelance TV producer was feeding six-month-old Archie at La Porchetta in Islington, London when a waiter told her to “fully” cover up or go into a back room.

And the 37-year-old, from Archway, says she was so “mortified” she burst into tears in the middle of the restaurant.

Breastfeeding in public continues to spark debate [Photo: Rex Features]

A spokeswoman for the chain has since “apologised unreservedly” for the incident.

“I am really disappointed, it is absolutely not our policy. It is very unfortunate,” the spokeswoman told Islington Tribune.

“We can only apologise to this lady. The manager will be disciplined.”

There are many positive aspects of breastfeeding (just ask Jamie Oliver. *jokes*), but as most nursing mums will testify, there are also a number of trickier aspects to deal with. And new mum Coco Austin has just uncovered one of them…bleeding nipples.

Since welcoming her daughter, Chanel in November, the 37-year-old, who is married to rapper Ice-T, has been excitedly documenting her parenting journey on Instagram. But speaking in a recent interview the new mum has opened up about one of the difficult side-effects she’s faced while breastfeeding her little one.

“They told me breastfeed, breastfeed, breastfeed,” she told People. “They’re like, ‘The first week is hard, but once you make it over that first week, it’s gonna be great.’ In that first week my nipples were bleeding and scabbing over. I was like, “No one tells you that your nipples bleed!’”

Fresh from his victory on the sugar tax at this week’s budget, Jamie Oliver has announced he is turning his attention to another family-friendly campaign – promoting breastfeeding.

The news comes as it emerged that the TV chef and his wife Jools, 41 are adding to their brood and expecting their fifth baby in August.

Speaking to LBC Radio, the soon to be father of five explained he believes women need to be encouraged to breastfeed in order to tackle issues like obesity.

“I think the most upsetting thing for me at the moment is breastfeeding. We have the worst breastfeeding in the world,” he said.

Emily Locke, a 33-year-old mom from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, was taking photos for her sister's wedding at the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland, Ohio this past weekend when she had to take a break to breastfeed her 9-month-old son. In a Facebook post, she explains that she was soon approached by a staff member who told her, "You aren't allowed to do that here."

"I responded that I was actually legally allowed to nurse my child," Locke wrote. "She said it was against the museum policy, and I had to stop. I refused, and she said she would have to get her manager. I said I would be happy to speak with her manager. Moments later, I was approached by a young woman. She said I would have to move, and they had a private area where I could 'do that.' I said I was fine where I was, and told her that legally I could nurse my child where ever I was permitted to be. (I wanted to be near where my family and other two children were posing for the pictures. I truly did not have time to stop the feeding and move to another location even if I wanted to.)"

Locke says the woman then told her that Society is a "family museum" - to which she responded that she was engaged in a "family moment." (#Boom.) "She then told me she was just trying to protect the innocent children," Locke recalled. "I was pretty shocked."

The confrontation ended when the museum employee gave up, but the ordeal understandably left Locke feeling "disappointed and saddened." So, she shared her story on Facebook, and it has since racked up over 31,000 likes and more than 10,000 shares.

Locke's experience also grabbed the attention of the Historical Society's President & CEO Kelly Falcone-Hall, who issued the following statement in response:

The majority of breastfeeding photos that do the rounds online may be beautiful and intimate, but most are nothing like the reality itself – which is why one photographer decided to make it her mission to capture what breastfeeding it actually like, in all its beautiful messiness.

In a series titled “What does breastfeeding actually look like?” photographer Suzie Blake snapped a series of mums breastfeeding their children – without the styling, airbrushing and all the other alterations you can usually spot.

[Photo: Tumblr/What Does Breastfeeding Look Like]

[Photo: Tumblr/What Does Breastfeeding Look Like]

“I was tired of seeing unrealistic photographs of women breastfeeding, so I took a photo of myself breastfeeding my baby, posted it on Facebook, and asked if other women would like to be photographed in the same way. I was inundated with responses, and so the project began,” Blake wrote on her Bored Panda submission.

Blake, a Melbourne-based mum and artist, says she feels there’s a “distinct lack of authenticity” in images of women breastfeeding.

“Most photos are highly stylised, airbrushed and unrealistic; many are sheer fantasy. Whether it is the angelic mother in her clinical white perfection or some model on the front of a fashion magazine. I’m tired of images that fail to show the realities of breastfeeding for most women.”

[Photo: Tumblr/What Does Breastfeeding Look Like]

[Photo: Tumblr/What Does Breastfeeding Look Like]

[Photo: Tumblr/What Does Breastfeeding Look Like]

Instead, Blake’s project is about mums sans make-up and lacking in sleep, with leaky nipples and unbrushed hair.

“This is about giving in to all the demands of your two-year-old while you try to feed your newborn. This is about dishes piled up in the kitchen and dirty laundry building in the corner. This is about puke on your shoulder and toys on the floor. This is about let down milk sprays in cafes and engorged breasts at the park.

“This is about empowering women. This is about the amazing thing that only we, the women humans of this earth, can do; sustain another humans life with our own.”
