#ALDUBPangalawangPagsubok In less than a year, Maine Mendoza went from being a YouTube Dubsmash sensation to becoming one half of the phenomenal AlDub love team with Alden Richards in the “Kalyeserye” segment of the long-running noontime show, “Eat Bulaga.”

The 20-year-old Bulacan native went on to star in the Metro Manila Film Festival’s top-grossing film, “My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore”, where she subsequently won the festival’s Best Supporting Actress award.

Along the way, Maine was also honored with numerous accolades, and has been featured on the cover of several magazines and been tapped by just about every major consumer brand to endorse their products.

Recently, she was also approached by no less than the iconic children’s entertainment giant, Disney, to portray Elsa of “Frozen” for its 2016 limited edition calendar.

Maine also counts as one of her biggest fans no less than Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach who was thrilled to finally meet her at the recent wedding of Vic Sotto and Pauleen Luna at St. James The Great Parish in Alabang, Muntinlupa.

Looking back, Maine still could not believe how far she has come in such a short time.

“Never kong inakala na makararating ako sa lugar na ‘to. I am doing what I really want to do and I am very thankful because of that,” Maine admitted during a recent promotional push for her recent endorsement deal for CDO Funtastyk Young Pork Tocino.

Fans got a chance to meet and greet Alden Richards ahead of his concert in Dubai

“I always enjoy seeing my supporters. When I started my career in the Philippines I had no idea I would also have supporters outside of the Philippines,” Filipino actor Alden Richards told tabloid! in an exclusive interview in Dubai.

“I am going to be singing. A lot. They can expect kilig (excitement). There’s going to be a little life story sharing during the concert. I’m going to share [my life story],” he said, describing what fans can expect during his gig at the Dubai Tennis Stadium on Thursday, his first solo concert in the emirate and outside the Philippines.

In today's "Brandstanding" segment, Ehden Llave Pelaez, social media manager at iSentia Brandtology, discusses the "AlDub" phenomenon, how it's becoming a mega hit on social media and how it's becoming a gold mine for anyone associated with it. She speaks to Bloomberg's Rishaad Salamat on "Trending Business."

Romeo and Juliet have nothing on this record-shattering couple.

True, Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza aren’t exactly star-crossed, but their split-screen story is the stuff of social media legend. As in, their ongoing romance has captured the attention of five continents and counting.

The actors, who appear on Filipino lunchtime series Eat Bulaga! have been dubbed “AlDub,” a combination of their names (Mendoza’s onscreen character is named Yaya Dub) but also a tribute to the nature of their romance. For months, these two characters on the series courted but took their sweet, sweet time actually meeting, communicating instead via Dubsmash—the social media tool that allows users to lip-sync to popular tunes and upload their videos to share online.

The duo was first introduced on the series back in July, after producers learned Mendoza had a real-life crush on Richards but had never met him. She had originally come to the long-running series (Eat Bulaga! has been on the air for 36 years and counting) because of her Dubsmash popularity and social media prowess. As she was performing one day on the series, she realized Richards was watching her segment from another area. Her visceral reaction—which included a rare smile and a flirty wave known as a Pabebe wave in the Philippines—captured the attention of the nation.

One thing seems clear, and that is that AlDub is only getting started. When asked by Bloomberg if marriage would be a natural endpoint for this couple’s 15 minutes, Ehden Llave Pelaez indicated it could surge well beyond that.

“They were able to establish a very unique and very strong fan base, which they were able to accomplish using social media,” she said. “Even if they do get married it will go beyond that.”

No wonder #AlDubTheRing is already a thing on Twitter.

When Lola Nidora (Wally Bayola) finally gave her go-ahead for the first real solo date of Alden Richards and YayaDub (Maine Mendoza), the AlDub nation went wild.

Imagine the reaction when the first date happened on Sept. 19, a day the Aldub nation had been waiting for for the last two months.

The Aldub nation pushed Twitter tweets for the day to an astounding 12.1 million by midnight for #ALDUBMostAwaitedDate.

“The Kalye Serye is really a gift from God. No one can take credit for how it started,” says Joey de Leon in an interview. “But there are miracles, and I believe this is one of them.”

De Leon is quick to acknowledge the contributions of Bayola, Jose Manalo (Lola Tidora) and Paolo Ballesteros (Lola Tinidora) for making the show a hit.

“They are veteran comedians,” De Leon said. “Wally and Jose have gone through a lot in life – and it is from these experiences that they draw the lessons they share on the Kalye Serye.”

Every week, from Monday to Saturday, viewers are glued to their TV sets in anticipation of the plot’s twists and turns for the day.

What is it about AlDub, or is it MaiDen, that continues to make hearts go a-flutter?

Even Twitter’s, it seems.

Before midnight Saturday, a new record of 6.37 million tweets around the #AldubTheAbduction series was set.

Netizens were glued to the latest episode of the KalyeSerye story, around the kidnapping and eventual rescue of Yaya Dub.

On Saturday, Yaya Dub, who had been kidnapped a week before, was not yet rescued. Making matters worse, Alden was also kidnapped on Sept. 10.

So what was to happen to AlDub, the fans wondered?

The excitement builds, perhaps because it is becoming more real that there is an ever-developing feeling for each other between Alden and YayaDub (in real? and reel life).

These have been sending the netizen fans of AlDub to their computers, cell phones or whatever they use to get online and tweet on “beastmode” as they like to call it.

For the last eight weeks, we have been witness to a sweet love unfolding — for 30 minutes, from Monday to Saturday, on Eat Bulaga’s KalyeSerye.

The fan-nomenon around the Aldub loveteam between GMA 7 talent Alden Richards and YouTube sensation Maine Mendoza, aka Yaya Dub, has seen no equal to date.

In the Twitter universe, their netizen followers make each daily hashtag not only trend, but aim to make it No. 1 nationwide and worldwide for the day.

Already, tweets reached 5.7 million during the Sept. 5 first meeting – in the flesh – between Alden and YayaDub.

Before that, 3.5 million tweets went around on Aug. 29, as Twitter was set ablaze.

That was the day when the wedding between Yaya Dub and Frankie Arinoli (Jose Manalo) was declared fake because the pastor was an impostor. The fans loved it — and made sure they tweeted about it.

The 3.5 million tweets were more than the 3.3 million sent around Pope Francis’ visit to Manila in January.

GMA-7’s noontime show “Eat Bulaga” and ABS-CBN’s “It’s Showtime” yesterday went head-to-head over viewers and Twitter users.

It’s Showtime celebrated its sixth anniversary at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, while Eat Bulaga launched the National Pabebe Wave Day. The “pabebe wave” is a popular gesture of YayaDub, the character of Maine Mendoza in Eat Bulaga’s famous Kalye Serye.

It’s Showtime’s anniversary celebration drew a crowd of 16,000.

Special guests were the top three love teams of ABS-CBN: Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, and James Reid and Nadine Lustre. The show had the fans screaming wildly when their favorite love teams came on stage and showed their affection for one another during their song numbers.

It was neck and neck before dawn yesterday as Aldub Nation with #ALDubEBforLOVE had reached 1.31 million tweets by 1 a.m., while #ShowtimeKapamilyaDay had a total of 1.02 million tweets at the same time.

But it became clear by around 6:45 p.m. that the Aldub Nation was winning the Twitter war with a total of 23.1 million tweets. #ShowtimeKapamilyaDay had 6.7 million.

As of midnight of September 26, a new record of 25.6 million tweets was posted by the Aldub Nation, breaking the previous week's total of 12.3 million tweets posted on September 19.

Vice Ganda, main host of It’s Showtime, encouraged the show’s fans to tweet more.

Meanwhile, Joey de Leon, one of the hosts of Eat Bulaga, stayed awake with the AlDub Nation and tweeted updates and videos of him dancing as the Twitter count for the AlDub Nation rose.

“We are the loved team,” de Leon said in an interview. “With the Kalye Serye, we want to bring back traditional Filipino values.”

"Eat Bulaga!" darling Maine Mendoza recently defended her love team partner Alden Richards, following criticisms over his absence at Vic Sotto and Pauleen Luna's wedding reception.

According to GMA News, although Richards did come to the wedding ceremony held in St. James The Great Parish in Alabang earlier in the day, he was a no-show at The Filinvest Tent where the Sottos held their reception.

His absence sparked backlashes from Netizens who considered it disrespectful to the couple, especially his senior, Vic Sotto.

However, Mendoza recently came to his defense on Twitter, saying, "He really wanted to stay the whole time but something came up, so he wasn't able to make it to the reception. Please don't be negative, okay?"

It was noted that one of the reasons for Richards' absence was due to a rehearsal he had to attend for his performance on the GMA music show, "Sunday PinaSaya". ALDUB

If teenage fans could vote and the “AlDub” tandem were running, the couple would be a shoo-in for an elective position.

The accidental love team made up of TV personality Alden Richards and YouTube sensation Nicomaine Dei “Maine” Mendoza, widely known as “Yaya Dub” for her voice impersonation of local celebrities, has been trending lately, pushing Richards’ career into overdrive.

At a beauty pageant held on Wednesday, shrieking fans mobbed the actor who graced the “Bb. Niyogyugan Festival 2015” at the jampacked Quezon Convention Center (QCC).

The frenzy almost drowned out Richards’ songs when he began serenading the 21 muses from different towns. The fans, most of them teenage girls, managed to slip through the security cordon and rushed to kiss, hug and take a selfie with the night’s special guest who gamely allowed himself to be fussed over by the army of young girls wielding tablets and phone cameras.

“This is the most riotous crowd that we’ve ever handled. Grabe,” a veteran security guard said. Additional security personnel were quickly brought in to keep unruly fans off the stage and allow the program to resume.

Richards serenaded the local beauties with three successive love songs: “Akin Ka na Lang” by Itchyworms; “How Deep Is Your Love” by Bee Gees, and his own song, “Can Find No Reason.”

‘Eat Bulaga’ segment

Between songs, the TV personality asked the audience to continue watching the daily episodes of the AlDub story played out on the GMA 7 noontime show, “Eat Bulaga.”

“We will be celebrating our ‘monthsary’ tomorrow (Aug. 13),” he said amid thunderous applause from the more than 7,000 fans who filled QCC.

Richards and Mendoza play star-crossed lovers on the “Eat Bulaga” segment “Juan for All, All for One” featured in a kalyeserye, although their characters have never met in person and only interact via the TV screen.

Mendoza, a native of Bulacan province, became an online hit for her impersonations of local celebrities, among them TV host and President Aquino’s sister, Kris, using the mobile application Dubsmash.

The popular “Eat Bulaga” segment stars comedians Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola as the snarky fashionista Lola Nidora, as well as Paolo Ballesteros, and has become a consistent Twitter trending subject.

Richards was invited by Quezon Gov. David Suarez and elder sister Jenny Suarez-Lopez to grace the province’s annual Niyogyugan Festival, which runs from Aug. 10 to 19.

The festival started in 2012 as a way for the province to recognize the role of the coconut, also known as the “tree of life,” and its contribution to the cultural and historical development of the province.

Costumes from coconuts

At the Bb. Niyogyugan pageant, Richards kissed some of the contestants on the cheek, sending them swooning and in a state of apparent dilemma: Can they kiss the actor back without tripping on their weighty costumes made from coconuts?

One of the lucky fans managed to take a selfie with Richards on stage and was spotted proudly showing off her prized mobile phone shot to friends.

“I’m ready to die tonight!”she crowed.

Another was seen waving a handkerchief that she had just used to wipe the face of her idol after planting a quick kiss on his cheek.

An elderly man supporting himself on a cane, was seen carrying his granddaughter near the stage to get a closer look at the TV star. With his trademark pabebe wave (which looked suspiciously like the gentle rocking palm wave of beauty contestants), Richards sent the little girl shrieking with delight.

“If only I can go near him, I’d thank him for that pabebe wave to my granddaughter,” the old man said. “She never fails to watch the Aldub segment,” the grandfather said, adding that the girl’s parents are both working abroad.

After the event, Richards left the venue using a side exit under heavy guard.

The Dubsmash bug has bitten team Jai Gangaajal and their maiden attempt at one of their film's dialogue is sure to tickle your funny bone.

The lead actress of the movie Priyanka Chopra recently posted a Dubsmash video on her Instagram account, which features Prakash Jha and Manav Kaul emulating her.

The duo's funny antics on the film's serious dialogue are hilarious and after watching it an amused Priyanka tweeted it on Instagram and urged her fans to make better videos than her co-stars, writing, ''Jitni bhi koshish kar lo B.N Singh, tum Abha Mathur nahin ban sakte!! Hahhahaha! Well done Prakash Jha & @manavkaul! If you guys think you can do better than my co-actors, then send me your own #JaiGangaajalDubsmash videos! Waiting."

She also tweeted the link on Twitter and after reading her post, Jha wrote,'' Kam se kam koshish toh achi thi na, Madam Sir ;) Bhai, aap hi sabse best ho! @priyankachopra.''

Written and directed by Prakash Jha, produced by Prakash Jha Productions and Play Entertainment and co-produced by Milind Dabke, Jai Gangaajal revisits the dusty heartland of Central India and examines the society–police relationship. Starring Priyanka Chopra, the movie is all set to release on 4th March, 2016. Jai Gangaajal is not a prequel or a sequel to Ajay Devgn starrer Gangaajal but is a fresh story.

“Tanggap na tanggap po!” Daddy Bae posted on Twitter after the first on-screen kiss of the AlDub tandem.

On February 25, 2016, Eat Bulaga’s ”Kalyeserye” protagonists Richards and Maine Mendoza shared their first kissing scene on national television — and it appears that Richards’ father, Richard Faulkerson, approves of it.

In a series of tweets, Faulkerson expressed his sentiments regarding the “tamang panahon part two” on social media.

He also shared a meme of unconscious people lying on the ground, with the text “‘Di kami na-orient!”

Apparently, Faulkerson still cannot get over the scene as he still commented about it on Twitter today, February 26, 2016. “Si Tisoy, ngayon, Kissoy na.”

As reported on Rappler, the Dubsmash Queen recently appeared alongside manager Rams David at the official contract signing event, where it was revealed that the label will be producing her first album.

"We're very happy to welcome Maine into the Universal Records family, and very excited to be working with her for her upcoming projects," said Kathleen Dy-Go, the General Manager of Universal Records.

Mendoza's cooperation with Universal Records were announced last month, when the label finally unveiled the mystery woman seen on their social media accounts earlier this year.

On the other hand, musician Ito Rapadas also revealed that they are working together on her album.

It was reported that Maine Mendoza will be joining Coco Martin and Vic Sotto in their upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival entry.

As reported on ABS-CBN, the news came after Martin made a coy statement that he would love to work with the Dubsmash Queen.

"Honestly, I would love to do a movie with her, but we haven't fixed a schedule," he said.

When asked whether Mendoza will be part of his MMFF film, "Popoy En Jack: The Puliscredibles", Martin responded, "Hmmm, hopefully. Hmmm, let's go ahead. Oops, I said it!"

However, the actor also stated that the movie has yet to finalise its cast and is still making a lot of adjustments.

Well, you can never dispute Maine Mendoza's fans, as Universal Records recently revealed their previous mystery new artiste is indeed the Dubsmash queen herself.

As reported on GMA, Universal Records Philippines recently set tongues wagging when it published on social media a photo of a mystery celebrity in a faux leather jacket, with her back turned to the camera, captioning it, "Soon."

Fans of Mendoza quickly speculated that it was the actress herself, saying that the figure resembles the "Destined to be Yours" star.

Universal Records Philippines recently posted a clip, showing that the woman with the Universal jacket is indeed Mendoza, adding the caption "She's ready" on the video, and ended it with the words "Maine Mendoza is Universal".

The news was also revealed by composer Ito Rapadas of Neocolours, who shared a photo of Mendoza on Twitter and wrote, "Excited to be her album's overall producer. Welcome to [Universal Records!]".

Mendoza previously showed off her singing talent through the song she written personally for her movie, "Imagine You and Me".

19 Jun – Bea Binene recently expressed puzzlement as to how she was romantically linked to actor Alden Richards.

As reported on Inquirer, the actress reignited romance rumours with the "Destined to be Yours" star recently, when she posted a photo of a man holding a bouquet of roses, with his face hidden behind the flowers.

In the caption, she wrote the lyrics to Michael Bublé's "Everything", which read, "And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times, it's you, it's you, you make me sing. You're every line, you're every word, you're everything."

Netizens who saw the post immediately began to play the guessing game, with many speculated that it was Richards who is behind the flowers.

Binene continued to keep mum about the identity of her flower guy until actress Sherilyn Reyes commented on the post, asking to how Richards's name was dragged into it.

The actress then responded to the comment saying that she was also clueless as to how netizens could come to that conclusion, adding that the man in question is "non-showbiz".
