Don’t make assumptions based on the trailer, director Zack Snyder says (Photo: Jimmy Kimmel Live/YouTube)

Following the release of the second trailer for March’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, some fans complained that too much of the story had been given away, especially as it related to seeing the two heroes stand alongside Wonder Woman against a common foe. Perhaps unsurprisingly, director Zack Snyder doesn’t agree with that point of view.

“I have the benefit of seeing the movie,” Snyder told MTV when asked about the complaints. “It’s cool that [fans] think it’s too much, and I appreciate people not wanting to know, but there’s plenty that they don’t know. There’s a lot of movie that’s not in the trailer.”

“In the trailer, of course he comes across in a very specific way,” Snyder admitted to MTV, before adding, “In the movie, he’s like a million times more sophisticated than what you get in 30 seconds. But that’s also the fun of it. That’s why you go to the movies, so you can actually see the context and understand the depth.”

There will be plenty of superheroes at the movies in 2016, with the Avengers, X-Men, Suicide Squad, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Gambit, Doctor Strange, and Deadpool all getting some action. But there’s also some heavyweight comedy (like Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot and a Zoolander sequel), highly anticipated animation (like the Nemo sequel Finding Dory and the new princess movie Moana), irresistible romantic pairings (like Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in La La Land and Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence in Passengers), and Oscar-friendly adult dramas (like biopics Sully and The Founder). Let’s count down the 40 films that have us feeling like ’16 will be extra-sweet.

For weeks now, the tension around Hank Henshaw has been building. In the comics, the character is one of Superman’s most dangerous foes, but Supergirl took a different route. As executive producer Andrew Kreisberg remembers it, he and two more of the show’s EPs realized that Hank didn’t necessarily have to go bad. “What if it’s a good secret?”

In the final moments of Monday night’s episode, it’s revealed that Hank’s suspicious red eyes and super-strength belong to Martian Manhunter, an original member of the Justice League and, in Kreisberg’s words, “he turns out to not only be good, but literally be the most good person in the DC universe.”

“That’s something very uncomfortable for him because he realizes Kara’s beautiful, attractive, and blond, and gorgeous — and I’m this 7-foot green martian.” Harewood is hesitant to use the term “coming out of the closet,” but like a lot of their social commentary, the metaphors used in the show can stand in for a lot of different things.

Though Martian Manhunter has been around since 1955 in the comics, he’s not one of the most high-profile DC characters.

Time Warner Chairman and CEO Jeff Bewkes says that Warner Bros. is poised to bounce back after a disappointing 2015.

The media mogul predicted that the studio would turn the corner on a series of flops, such as Jupiter Ascending and Pan, by offering moviegoers a steady diet of comic book movies and sequels, calling out upcoming films like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

“We think this could bring an under-represented female audience to this genre that frankly has not been served well in the past and that could be exciting,” he said.

Disney-Marvel’s “Black Panther” is heading for as much as $150 million in its North American opening on the four-day Presidents Day weekend, updated tracking is showing.

That’s significantly above the first tracking on Jan. 25 for the Chadwick Boseman tentpole, which initially placed the debut in the $100 million to $120 million range for the Feb. 16-19 period. “Black Panther” could break the Presidents Day weekend record of $152 million, set in 2016 by “Deadpool.” It will easily top the second-highest debut for  the four-day holiday, set in 2015 when “Fifty Shades of Grey” opened with $93 million.

“Black Panther” has been gaining steam this week. Fandango reported Wednesday that “Black Panther” is outpacing all superhero movies in advance ticket sales for Fandango’s online tickets service, eclipsing 2016’s “Batman v Superman.” It topped Fandango’s daily ticket sales in the wake of its world premiere and first screenings two days earlier.

The newest tracking showed total awareness of “Black Panther” at 88%, unaided awareness at 43%, and definite interest at 57%. Boseman stars as T’Challa, who takes over as the king of Wakanda after his father T’Chaka is killed, as shown in “Captain America: Civil War.” The film also stars Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Michael B. Jordan. Ryan Coogler directed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole.

Initial tracking on Thursday also showed that Warner Bros.’ comedy “Game Night” is projecting an opening in the $15 million to $20 million range on Feb. 23-25, while Paramount’s sci-fi thriller “Annihilation” should debut in the $12 million to $15 million area during the same weekend.

“Game Night,” directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, stars Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams and follows a group of friends whose game night turns into a murder mystery. Supporting cast includes Kyle Chandler, Billy Magnussen, Sharon Horgan, Lamorne Morris, Kylie Bunbury, Jesse Plemons, Michael C. Hall, and Jeffrey Wright.

“Annihilation,” based on Jeff VanderMeer’s horror sci-fi novel, is directed by Alex Garland from his own script. The story follows a biologist, played by Natalie Portman, who embarks on a four-person expedition into a territory cut off from civilization while searching for clues about her husband’s disappearance. While there, she must deal with a contamination, vanishing colleagues, a deadly animal, and a creature known as the Crawler. Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, and Tessa Thompson also star.

Paramount made a deal with Netflix in December for the streaming service to handle the international release of  “Annihilation.”

Seasoned producer Charles Roven, who has had his hand in all DC Comics movie at Warner Bros. since Batman Begins in 2005, will no longer be producing certain DC movies, TheWrap has learned.

The move is another signal that Warner Bros. is putting its ducks in a row following the weak box office and bad critical response to “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” — and ahead of the launch of a whole lot more DC movies, including this August’s “Suicide Squad” and the launch of its symphony of superheroes in the “Justice League” series.

Just last week Warner Bros. put executive vice presidents Jon Berg and Geoff Johns in charge of its DC Films unit.

The specifics of Roven’s fate are still being decided, though he is still performing his duties as producer on “Wonder Woman.” He had also been named a producer on the Flash and Aquaman standalone movies, but it is not yet clear how he will serve those films.

Roven previously produced on “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad” (with filming now complete on the Aug. 5 film).

“Roven is a key member of not only the DC slate but of the Warner Bros. family,” a studio spokesman told TheWrap.

“BvS” hasn’t come close to the high billion-dollar-plus watermark set by movies in the Marvel universe. While “BvS” has grossed $870.1 million worldwide so far, that’s far short of what many analysts expected.

Sources say Roven’s role is shifting simply to provide support for the quickly multiplying slate of DC movies — a job too big for one person as it involves multiple sets being filmed in several different countries and cities around the world.

The Durrells star Milo Parker has admitted he fears that children his age are more interested in Xboxes than the plight of endangered species.

The 13-year-old actor, who stars as Gerald Durrell in the hit ITV adaptation of the famous conservationist’s childhood memoirs, said he wanted to inspire a new environmentally minded generation as he was named ambassador for the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust.

He said: “I think with all the technology these days kids are more interested in Xbox than realising what’s out there and how we really need to play a part in helping to conserve and save these species that are endangered.

“I think it’s important that the message to young people is given that Xbox or PlayStation isn’t all we need to focus on, it’s what’s out there.”

He said he was “truly humbled to have the opportunity to contribute in my small way” to the work of the Jersey-based wildlife park and charity, founded by Durrell in 1963, which works to save species from extinction.

Milo joins Superman star Henry Cavill as an ambassador and he has his eye on the actor for a role in the second series of The Durrells.

“If he’s up for it, it would be a dream!” he said.

In the midst of a banner year, Oscar-nominated actor Michael Shannon is in talks to star opposite Sally Hawkins in Guillermo del Toro‘s Cold War love story that is taking shape at Fox Searchlight, TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Rumored to be titled “The Shape of Water,” the mysterious film is described as an other-worldly story set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963.

Richard Jenkins, Octavia Spencer and Michael Stuhlbarg will co-star in the period picture, which del Toro is producing with Callum Greene, who worked on both “Pacific Rim” and “Crimson Peak.”

Hawkins is believed to be playing a mute woman who works at a lab where an amphibious man is being held captive. She soon falls in love with him and decides to help him escape, though her actions may have unintended consequences.

Shannon is one of Hollywood’s most interesting leading men — the type of actor who you can’t take your eyes off of when he’s onscreen. Following acclaimed turns in last year’s indie dramas “99 Homes” and “Freeheld,” Shannon turned up as a major scene-stealer in Sony’s holiday comedy “The Night Before.”

He can currently be seen in Jeff Nichols‘ “Midnight Special,” Liza Johnson‘s “Elvis & Nixon” and briefly as General Zod in Zack Snyder‘s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

Shannon is poised for a big year, with key roles in Nichols’ interracial marriage drama “Loving” and Tom Ford‘s “Nocturnal Animals.” He also had a pair of films at Sundance — “Frank & Lola” with Imogen Poots and “Complete Unknown” with Rachel Weisz.

Richard Jenkins, Octavia Spencer and Michael Stuhlbarg will co-star. Del Toro is directing and producing with Callum Greene, who worked with him on both “Pacific Rim” and “Crimson Peak.”

Universal bought the rights to his drama “Frank & Lola” for $2 million at Sundance.

Shannon is represented by CAA, Wetzel Entertainment and Morris Yorn. The news was first reported by The Wrap.a

James Bond director Guy Hamilton has died aged 93.

He worked with Sir Sean Connery on Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever, and directed Sir Roger Moore in his other two Bond credits – Live And Let Die and The Man With The Golden Gun.

Guy’s film talents extended beyond Bond and he worked with a host of other big stars including Michael Caine in 1969′s Battle Of Britain, and Harrison Ford in British war film Force 10 From Navarone.

Other notable credits include his work on two Agatha Christie adaptations, the first of which was The Mirror Crack’d in 1980, followed by Evil Under The Sun in 1982.

Born in Paris, it was there that Guy found his love of the film industry as a young boy.

It was only years later, after the Second World War, that he landed his first big break in the industry, working as a director’s assistant for Carol Reed, known for his work on successful films such as The Third Man and Oliver!.

Reports say Guy was also linked to Superhero films Superman and Batman in the late 70s and early 80s. However, he was replaced on Superman and reportedly turned down the chance to work on Batman.

Disney’s live action adaptation of one of the studio’s cartoon classics achieved a larger-than-expected debut after achieving favourable reviews from critics.

Jon Favreau’s CGI-enabled update of the The Jungle Book landed the second highest April opening ever. Only five PG-rated films have had larger openings.

Here are the top five films at the North American box office in US dollars:

He visited a toy store, where his favorite animal toys are gathered. At the toy store, he showed his eyes full of love just like he found a paradise. He pointed at several animals and showed off his language skill by saying, “Squirrel\", \"Koala\", \"Bat\" and surprised his father.

Lee Beom Soo had a puzzled look on his face after hearing Da Eul’s words and made people in the scene burst into laughter. He got excited and asked his son about the name of various kinds of animals. He smiled when Da Eul correctly answered his question and disclosed his great love toward his son.

Toho’s action comedy “Assassination Classroom: Graduation” won its third straight weekend at the Japanese box office.

For the April 9-10 frame the film, recorded $1.8 million from 167,000 admissions, while raising its cumulative earnings to $26 million. This compares with $25.5 million for the first part, released in March of last year.

At number two was another Toho release, animation “Doraemon: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016,” which earned $1.01 million.

Warner’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” held onto the third slot, as using the Japanese method of ranking by admissions, but outperformed in cash terms with $1.3 million. Its cumulative is now $12.8 million.

The sloe new entrant to the top ten, at number eight, was the drama “Room,” which was boosted by the best actress Oscar for Brie Larson. Opening on 76 screens with Gaga distributing, the film took $528,000.

In between Batman v Superman’s dreary vibe and reports (later denied) that Suicide Squad was undergoing reshoots to add more humor, the tone of the upcoming DC Comics antihero assemblage has become a hot topic. Will Squad be that much lighter than BvS? Is it as funny as the first trailers suggest?

“It’s definitely concentrated on a certain amount of levity set into a serious, harsh reality,” star Will Smith, who plays marksman Deadshot, told Yahoo Movies on the Warner Bros. press line at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. “So what [director] David Ayer did that was really good is he didn’t allow us to be in a comic-book movie. You’re playing this character, but this character has real ideas, has real feelings. So he set us firmly into this authentic world, but then allowed for the comedy.

"It shifts, it moves around. It is really violent, and then there’s beautiful scenes. Deadshot has a daughter. It covers a lot of ground.”

Smith stressed that Suicide Squad is not in the same vein as February’s breakout hit Deadpool. “It’s not a full-out comedy. It is a superhero movie in its definition. There’s heavy action to it. We shot real hardcore military war-type action. But it’s also really funny. In one scene, Boomerang [Jai Courtney] sits down and has a beer while we’re fighting.”

“Assassination Classroom: Graduation,” the second part of a two-part action comedy based on a hit comic, debuted atop the Japanese box office for the weekend of March 26-27.

Bowing on 319 screens, with Toho distributing, the film earned $5.64 million on 545,000 admissions. That was more than 50% higher than the first-weekend take of the prior film, “Assassination Classroom,” which was released in March 2015 and finished with $24 million.

“Doraemon: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016” took second place after three weeks at number one.

Opening in the number three slot was “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Released on 717 screens by Warner, the film recorded $3.27 million on 231,000 admissions in its opening frame. Over the three-day holiday weekend, the film racked up $4.42 million and is expected to finish with $13 million.

Bowing at number four was “Kamen Rider 1: The Movie,” the latest feature in the long-running action series about a baddie-battling biker cyborg, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. Bowing on 307 screens with Toei distributing, the film took $1.37 million on 124,000 admissions. That was about 70% of the first-weekend box office for the previous installment, which opened in December last year. The film’s final take is forecast at $8.8 million.

As Mariah Carey's Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour continues to roll through Europe, the singer is scheduled to perform at Brussels' Forest National venue on Sunday.

But in the wake of Tuesday's deadly explosions within the city, it is unclear whether the Belgian government will allow Carey's show to go on.

Though her performance has not yet been canceled, other events around the city are beginning to shut down. Wednesday's scheduled performance by Italian singer-songwriter Edoardo Bennato at Royal Circus was canceled on Tuesday, as was the Belgium soccer team's Tuesday practice session.

Among the other mainstream music acts scheduled to take the stage over the next week are Jess Glynne (scheduled to perform at Botanique on Friday) and The 1975 (scheduled for The Japanese House next Wednesday).

Ben Affleck sat down with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday's Tonight Show, but he wasn't the only superhero in the building! Fallon had a surprise for the Oscar winner -- puppies dressed up like the Justice League.

Sitting opposite each other in leather lounge chairs, the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star went head-to-head with the talk show host in "Pup Quiz," the Tonight Show's game of random knowledge that ends up with opponents covered in golden retriever puppies.

Only this time, the almost-too-adorable puppies were dressed like the superheroes -- specifically those from the DC universe including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Batgirl and Supergirl.

As always, the game and the trivia don't really matter. All that mattered was who ended up "swimming in puppies," as trivia master and Tonight Show announcer Steve Higgins so eloquently described what someone looks like when they've got six curious canines crawling all over them.
