'The Force Awakens': What to Know Before Seeing New 'Star Wars'

The wait is over and Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally here. With the new film comes lots of fresh characters and settings. Here is a quick, spoiler-free guide to get you up to speed on the who’s who and what’s what of Episode VII.

The First Order operates from this station disguised as a snowy planet, which features sun-absorbing, planet-annihilating weaponry that makes the Death Star look like a pea shooter.

Not much is known about this mysterious group of Dark Side acolytes fronted by Kylo Ren.

Much of the early action takes place on this desert wasteland on the Outer Rim. It’s largely populated by scavengers, who carve out a meager life plundering the remains of starships littering the planet. The Battle of Jakku, some 30 years before, saw the Rebellion rout the Imperial Navy. Now, after years as an afterthought, the planet is center stage as one of its denizens has information coveted by both the Resistance and First Order.

Disheartened by the atrocities of the First Order, which abducted him from his family when he was a child, Finn leaves his post as a Stormtrooper and escapes to Jakku, where he teams up with Rey. He never knew his real name and adopts the moniker “Finn” from his former Stormtrooper number designation: FN- 2187.

The spherical droid belongs to Poe Dameron and accompanies him to Jakku. After the little guy becomes separated from his master, he is rescued by Rey from Jakku scavengers like Teedo (pictured on his Luggabeast) and Unkar Plutt, only to be chased by the First Order.

  1. Actually, I was disappointed by the movie. It was basically the same movie as the original.I do not understand why the victors of the previous series are now the resistance! What happened? To me, it seemed like the creators of this movie did not have an original thought in their head and had to reproduce the original movie as that is all they could conceive!
