Trump Booed, Ridiculed In Brawling Republican Debate

Wayne Newton was in the Las Vegas audience for the Republican debate on CNN Tuesday night, and that turned out to be symbolically appropriate. This was debate as entertainment: The theater was filled with people on the stage using insult-humor to score points, and people in the seats who screamed, booed, heckled, and cheered the performers — I mean, the candidates. Oh, and Frank Underwood made a special guest appearance. 

When Trump responded by saying, “You’re trying to build your energy, Jeb, but it’s not working,” instead of being met with laughs or cheers, Trump heard many boos. At another point, Trump was interrupted by at least one heckler in the audience.
