She is one of the most outspoken actors of her time and still continues to voice her opinions strong and loud. Raveena Tandon,  a National Award winning actor, who has been in the limelight for the past 25 years hasn’t ever shied away from talking about personal or public issues- be it the infidelity of her boyfriend or the more recent Award Waapsi fiasco or Aamir Khan’s statement about an ‘intolerant’ India, Raveena has made statements that her peers wouldn’t ever dream of doing. Over here she tells us how Bollywood has changed over time and why women actors never make it to the top after a come back while male actors continue to enjoy star status.

How does it feel to complete 25 years in the industry?

I had never expected to have such a long run. At the beginning of my career I never imagined that I’d have such a long innings in Bollywood. I was really nervous when I faced the camera for the first time.

How has the industry changed over the years?

Technically, we’ve improved a lot. We’ve even started making bold subjects. In our time, there used to be one villain, a vamp, hero and heroine. These days, lead artistes are also ready to do negative roles and the audience accepts them willingly. No lead actress from our times would have done what Priyanka Chopra did in Mary Kom, when she becomes a boxer. These changes are good. The makers, actors and the audience have all changed for good.

Leading men of your times still dominate Bollywood while actresses who make a comeback fail to do so. Why?

The films that the lead actors of my time do still work because they are backed by a powerful script. It has strength. That is what makes it unique. Women when they make a comeback do not get such good opportunities.
