Most popular South Indian actresses, slowly coming to light

South Indian actresses are slowly coming to light, in comparison to the Bollywood beauties out there. Their presence, although curbed, is now taking shape with the Bollywood industry looking at sourcing actresses from the South.

Tamannah Bhatia

With her predominant presence in Telugu and Tamil films, Tamannah Bhatia seemed to have established her acting debut in Bollywood in 2005. This actress has a safe career path ahead of her.

Anushka Shetty

Works mainly in the Telugu and Tamil film industries. She’s born in Mangalore, and started her career as a yoga instructor. It was while teaching yoga, she got an offer to join the film industry. Now that’s a story to tell. Not a lot of people get the opportunity to join the industry while working in another field. We’re pretty sure luck was in her favor.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu

She’s one of the most popular and highest paid South Indian actress and model. She has established a career in the Telugu and Tamil film industries, and is a recipient of three Filmfare Awards.

Nayanthara

Whose previous name was Diana Mariam Kurian, from Kerala, made her acting debut in 2003 in Malayalam films, before moving on to Tamil and Telugu cinemas. Good for her. The exposure and money is on the latter side, and we would love to see her make the gradual progress to Bollywood even.

Shruti Haasan

This beautiful woman, the daughter of the legendary Kamal Haasan, is known for her musicianship and her acting in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi film industry. As a child artist, she sang in films and appeared in a guest role in her father’s movies as well. We’re pretty sure she would’ve made it into the industry even without the influence.

Ileana D’Cruz

She started off in the Telugu movie industry, where she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut - South in 2006. After making her entry into Bollywood in 2012, she received appreciation and the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She’s clearly a winner and someone to look out for in the industry.

Trisha

Known as one of the leading actresses in the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries, Trisha was noticed after winning several beauty pageants like the Miss Madras contest. Considering her popularity, Bollywood is a place she should look for.

Kajal Aggarwal

Her works in Telugu and Tamil films have gained her the presence attached to her name. She has also appeared in a few Hindi movies, and she’s known to be one of the most popular celebrities in South India. In addition to acting, her participation in stage shows and brand endorsement has gained her a stable fan following.

Hansika Motwani

This South Indian actress has gained her name predominantly in Tamil and Telugu films. She made her film debut as a leading actress in a Telugu film, winning the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South.

Shriya Saran

This beautiful woman is known across India as a model, actor and a presenter. She has acted in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, English, Malayalam and Kannada movies in her time. Saran was born in Dehradun, Uttarakhand and spent most of her childhood in Haridwar. It is said that in 2001, her dance master gave her the opportunity to appear in Renoo Nathan’s debut music video, which brought Saran to the attention of many Indian filmmakers.
