It was cardiac arrest that took director Wenn Deramas' life, and it was also heart problem that recently killed another director, Francis Xavier Pasion, while he was at home last weekend.
The silent killer, which also took down Uro de la Cruz earlier in February, now seemed to be an occupational hazard to filmmakers around the Philippines, and director Quark Henares believes that the working condition in the industry is one of the reasons of such tragedies.
As reported on InterAksyon, the director, also a friend and former student of Pasion, posted his opinion about the issue on Facebook recently, saying that it was not only directors who have gone through this situation, but also other film workers – from stuntmen, assistant directors, to filming crew.
"[It is] because of the horrible working hours and conditions in television," said Henares, adding, "This should really change. I don't know how it will, considering that this entails losses for the networks. But it really is time."
