Back in my day, I went door to door all over my neighborhood selling Girl Scout Cookies with my sash, cookie sheet, and a strong love for Samoas. Those days are over.
Today’s scouts are far savvier — from the San Francisco girl unloading her haul outside of a medical marijuana dispensary to now, some Long Island, New York, whizzes using Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio as a marketing tool. After the Best Actor winner was seen enjoying Trefoils during last month’s Academy Awards — thanks to host Chris Rock’s cookie bit during the show — some smart scouts made a sign suggesting that good luck will come to Girl Scout Cookie buyers.
Stealing a page from the “Be Like Bill” meme that overtook Facebook earlier this year, the poster read, “This is Leo. Leo wants an Oscar. Leo buys Girl Scout Cookies at the awards. Leo wins an Oscar. Leo is smart. Be like Leo. Buy Girl Scout Cookies.”
Of course, there was also a photo of The Revenant star with a blue box of Trefoils in his hand — obviously taken before he had his Oscar in his hand.
“We thought the photo was funny and would help make people buy cookies,“ the troop told ABC News. "We saw the Academy Awards and thought it would be a good idea if we could do something like that.”
They claim to have they sold more cookies than expected because of the sign.
