Soul singer Joss Stone's rules for staying stress free

Working in the music industry can bring its fair share of stresses. An artist has to worry about album sales, public image, how to craft that next big hit and more.

But soul singer Joss Stone sticks by two rules to keep herself stress-free. Firstly, she smiles a lot. Secondly, she’s learned to let go of the outcome.

The 28-year-old was speaking to Yahoo Singapore during a group interview a day ahead of her show at the annual Singapore International Jazz Festival, and appeared shocked when this reporter informed her that Singaporeans are generally a stressed bunch.

Arriving in a loose top and blue pants, Stone is one of the headliners at the annual music festival, happening from 4 to 6 March. She will be performing at Marina Bay Sands on Saturday.

“If you’re kind of feeling tired and you smile, maybe you’ll feel more delirious than upset,” said Stone, on her first rule.

She added, “A good tip is (also) to let go of the outcome. Do what you do, live in the moment, go with your gut, let go of the outcome. Don’t worry about it, don’t worry about the future, because there ain’t s*** you can do about it.”

Stone takes the carefree vibes into her concerts as well, and has been known to walk around the stage barefoot.
