Hong Kong actor Dominic Lam recently challenged himself to sleep on a street in Toronto, with just a cardboard and a sleeping bag to warm him, on a cold 3 degrees Celsius night, to see how life is like for the homeless.
As reported on On CC news, the actor's effort was part of a fundraising event held by a charity service in Toronto to raise awareness and help the homeless by understanding what they're going through on a day-to-day basis.
Dominic stated that most young people who are subjected to homelessness have a history of domestic violence or sexual assault within their family.
"These youngsters ran away from home when things became intolerable. They ended up wandering around with no place to stay, going further and further away to a point of no return," said Dominic.
The actor stressed that society can help solve this issue by assisting the homeless in rebuilding their life.
"Just giving them a place to live is not enough. We need to teach them to be self-reliant, for example, teaching them how to cook so that they could find work in the food industry," he said.
