Gong Min Ji is leaving from 2NE1.
On April 5th, a representative of YG Entertainment announced, "We would like to officially inform everyone that 2NE1's youngest member, Gong Min Ji, decided to leave the team. Recently, we had a discussion with each of 2NE1 members regarding their management contract, which will expire on May 5th. We expressed our hope to renew the contracts with all of them, but unfortunately, Gong Min Ji decided to renew her contract."
The representative went on, "It will not be very difficult for all of us to say goodbye to someone who has been with us for eleven years, but we decided to respect Gong Min Ji's decision as she had to go through a lot of difficulties during last two years after 2NE1 had to stop their activities abruptly."
Regarding the group's disband, the representative said, "After the announcement about Gong Min Ji's withdrawal was released, all of the other members asked if the group will be disbanded. However, head producer Yang Hyun Suk met them and said that he hopes to keep the group in shape no matter what it takes. 2NE1 will make an official comeback this summer without recruiting a new member."
The representative lastly addd, "2NE1 members had to abruptly stop their career two years ago due to an unfortunate reason, and the group is now faced with another obstacle as Gong Min Ji decided to leave the team. However, we will do our best so that the remaining members can overcome the situation. We promise to help 2NE1 to return with fabulous new music."
