Philip Yung doesn't mind losing to Tsui Hark

Although he didn't win Best Director at the recent Hong Kong Film Awards, Philip Yung stated that he doesn't mind it one bit.

As reported on Mingpao News, the movie critic-turned-filmmaker, whose movie "Port of Call" was only his third project as a director, stated that he didn't expect to win the award when other nominees were seasoned filmmakers that he respected very much.

The award went to "The Taking of Tiger Mountain" director, Tsui Hark, instead.

"Who would not lose to Tsui Hark? I am not Wong Kar Wai or Ann Hui. I am a new director with only three films under my belt. Tsui Hark is my idol," he said.

However, Philip did win Best Screenplay, while his movie bagged the most awards with seven in total, including major acting categories – Best Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, and Best New Performer.

As for his new project, Philip stated that he has plans to work with the original team soon and has already been discussing it with Aaron Kwok's manager.

"But we have not picked up a subject matter just yet. Aaron's manager asked me to make a comedy, but I don't think I am good at that," he said.
