Bhutan's little prince shows off full head of hair in new photo to mark three-month birthday

An adorable new photo of Bhutan's baby prince has been released ahead of his three-month birth anniversary. The picture, which shows little Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck lying down and looking directly at the camera, was released via his parents' official Facebook pages and the national website.

His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema held a spectacular ceremony on 17 April to reveal the name of their first child, His Royal Highness, The Gyalsey.

Speaking to his people, King Jigme said: "The Gyalsey is not just the prince of the King and Gyaltsuen, but a son to all the Bhutanese people... Jigme means fearless. It symbolizes great courage to overcome any challenge that he may confront in future as he serves our country."

He continued: "When the time comes for Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck to serve his country, he must always place the concerns of his country above all else and serve his people justly with great love and dedication. It will be his sacred responsibility to build a harmonious and just society, and thereby, fulfill all the aspirations of his people.

The Bhutanese royals – dubbed the 'William and Kate of the Himalayas' - welcomed their little boy on February 5, and just four days later shared the very first image of their son. In the photo, posted on Facebook, the first-time parents are seen looking down at their baby as he is cradled by his paternal grandfather, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

"Bhutanese families spent a wonderful Losar today, celebrating the day with family and loved ones. To make the day even more special, we have the honour of bringing to you the very first official photograph of His Royal Highness The Gyalsey," the message on King Jigme's official Facebook page read.
