Erik Matti gets backlash over criticism against OFWs

Movie director Erik Matti has sparked the anger of many Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) after making a comment about their right to vote.

As reported on Chisms News, back on 15 May, the "Honor Thy Father" director wrote on Twitter that OFWs should not have voted in the recent presidential election at all.

"Nobody cares because they are not living here," he added.

Many believed that his rant stemmed from the fact that his candidate of choice, Liberal Party's Mar Roxas and Leni Robredo, lost to Rodrigo Duterte and Ferdinand Marcos Jr., especially when it comes to the Overseas Absentee votes (OAV).

Netizens, especially OFWs who read the comment online, quickly slammed the filmmaker for his views.

"Funny how we fight for democracy yet we didn't practice it. In democracy, we should respect the voice of the majority," said one Twitter commenter.

"You obviously do not know what you are talking about!" said another.
