Way to bring up a sore subject. J.K. Rowling is apologizing once again for killing off one of her beloved Harry Potter characters. This time, the famed British author is sorry about Remus Lupin’s fate.

“Once again, it’s the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts so, as promised, I shall apologise for a death. This year: Remus Lupin,” Rowling, 50, wrote to her more than 7 million Twitter followers on Monday, May 2.
She added: “In the interests of total honesty I’d also like to confess that I didn’t decide to kill Lupin until I wrote Order [of] the Phoenix.”
Lupin (David Thewlis) and his wife, Nymphadora Tonks (Natalia Tena), both died in the fifth book of the bestselling franchise. The couple had a son, Edward “Teddy” Lupin (Luke Newberry).
“Arthur [Weasley] lived, so Lupin had to die. I’m sorry. I didn’t enjoy doing it,” Rowling added on Monday. “The only time my editor ever saw me cry was over the fate of [his son] Teddy.”
Rowling has also apologized for killing George Weasley’s twin brother, Fred, played by James Phelps. She tweeted about his demise exactly one year ago on the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts. “Today I would just like to say: I’m really sorry about Fred,” she wrote at the time. “*Bows head in acceptance of your reasonable ire.*”
