Marvel's Agent Carter has been dropped after just two series

Marvel’s Second World War-era action series Agent Carter has been cancelled by its American broadcaster.

The show, which starred British actress Hayley Atwell in the title role, was dropped by American network ABC after just two series on the air.

Hayley’s character Agent Carter debuted in the big screen film Captain America: The First Avenger before popping up in further Marvel outings, notably Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where she was aged significantly.

The series, which is shown on Fox in the UK, gathered a devoted fan following but did not achieve ratings success in the US.

The show also stars British actor James D’Arcy and former One Tree Hill leading man Chad Michael Murray.

The Muppets, a show set behind the scenes of Miss Piggy’s late-night talk show that airs in the UK on Sky 1, was also dropped by ABC.

Country music drama Nashville, which will move from More 4 to Sky Living for its fourth series, also got the chop before its fifth outing, as did Alibi’s crime comedy Castle.

The last surviving spin-off of the CSI franchise, CSI: Cyber, which is shown on Channel 5, has been cancelled after two series by American network CBS.
