TVB to pay fine for violating advertising code

TVB has been penalised by the Hong Kong Communications Authority recently following a clear violation of TV-related rules.

As reported on Passion Times, the company was asked to pay a fine of HKD150,000 for breaching relevant provisions of the TV Programme Code and the TV Advertising Code, after viewers sent several complaints about its blatant promotion of KFC.

According to the findings made by the Communications Authority released on 24 May, the programme made several errors, including airing a shot of TVB celebrities eating friend chicken, having the host Carol Cheng mention that there is good food to eat on two separate occasions, and even showing the KFC logo on screen for about ten seconds.

It was reported that these indirect advertising and sponsorship of regulated goods and services were in clear violations of the aforementioned provisions.
