Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific has struck a deal to screen selected Discovery content on Viddsee, a Singapore-based streaming service.
The platform specializes in curating short form content. It will be the new home for films flowing from Discovery’s First Time Filmmakers initiative, which aims to foster local filmmaking talent and help support the local documentary filmmaking industry.
Viddsee is now looking at other content deals and is in talks with Discovery to co-produce original content.
The Discovery FTFM showcase on Viddsee kicks off with Singapore Stories and Super Japan. Other titles include Nanjing Calling, Korea Next and FTFM Vietnam.
Viddsee was launched in 2012 and has raised some $2.3 million of funding to date. It actively markets its content to online communities via social, web and mobile platforms. These are designed to encourage discovery, and to engage users with stories that matter to them.
“Viddsee is a great platform for us to showcase the rich pool of local filmmaking talent that we work with, and we hope this will inspire the next generation of filmmakers in bringing their stories to life in the digital space. Distributing our content on digital platforms is only going to deepen and grow our audience engagement,” said Charmaine Kwan, Head of Products – Southeast Asia, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific.
“In delivering entertainment to our community, we’ve seen conversations grow very healthily around genuine and local stories, as it helps with the discovery of the world around us.
