Russell Crowe's sons have finally seen Gladiator and given their verdict...

Russell Crowe’s eldest son loves to pick holes in the movies he watches – including his dad’s iconic movie Gladiator.

The actor, who is currently starring in The Nice Guys, is father to 12-year-old Charles and nine-year-old Tennyson.

It was only recently that the kids saw Russell’s role as Maximus in the epic Ridley Scott movie from 2000.

The 52-year-old said: “My kids wanted to see it at Christmas for the first time. My youngest one loved it, my oldest one talked all the way through it. I didn’t sit and watch it with them but the people who did told me afterwards.

“I think because my eldest has explored that film so deeply on the internet, he feels he has a sort of connection with it so he was looking for all the mistakes that are listed on the internet rather than actually watch the movie.

“My eldest one yes is very critical in that regard, not just of my work but of anything. He’s a real sponge and a big reader and stuff.”

Russell himself isn’t one for re-watching his movies, and left the room while the boys watched Gladiator.

He said: “It’s funny, you make films and I tend to see them when I’m at the premiere, and after that I never watch them again.”

But even watching his movies at premieres has taken on a new dimension after a comment from his then-wife, Danielle Spencer.
