Happy Anniversary, The Walking Dead! AMC’s zombie drama debuted five years ago on Oct. 31, and what better way to celebrate the show and its continuing excellence than with a look back at The Walking Dead dead, and how they’ve been living since departing post-apocalyptic life. Read on for updates on the actors and actresses playing the characters you loved, and loved to hate
Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale Horvath)
Then: The eldest member of Rick’s group, and also the moral compass (which has proven to be a doomed position to take in the post-apocalyptic world), RV owner Dale was a friend to all, except the increasingly dangerous Shane. Death: In Season 2’s “Judge, Jury, Executioner,” Dale was on patrol at Hershel’s farm when he was attacked by a walker, one that Carl had antagonized earlier in the day, and didn’t warn anyone about. When Hershel determined Dale was too injured to be saved, Daryl shot him to spare him further pain. Now: The actor has guest starred on Chicago Fire, The Good Wife, The Affair, and The Blacklist, and co-starred with TWD on-screen nemesis Jon Bernthal in the TNT drama series Mob City. (Credit: AMC)
Jon Bernthal (Shane Walsh)
Then: He was Rick Grimes’s best friend and sheriff’s department partner before the outbreak, but quickly became a murder-minded thorn in Rick’s side when they butted heads about how to survive in the zombie world.
IronE Singleton (T-Dog)
Then: T-Dog (Theodore Douglas) saved Glenn when Glenn was a pizza delivery guy in Atlanta, and then became a kind and caring member of Rick’s group. He remained with the group into Season 3 and their time at the prison
Michael Rooker (Merle Dixon)
Then: Daryl’s mean and selfish older brother, Merle was particularly bent on revenge after an accident by T-Dog left him chained to a pipe on top of a building in Atlanta.
Laurie Holden (Andrea)
Then: She was a member of Rick’s group, until she fell for The Governor’s charms and abandoned life at the prison for life with her psycho boyfriend in Woodbury.
