AlDub sets new record with 39.5 million tweets

"Kalyeserye" love team Alden Richards and Maine "Yaya Dub" Mendoza, or more affectionately known by fans as AlDub, have managed to set a new Twitter record with their latest hashtag #ALDubEBTamangPanahon, which generated 39.5 million tweets on the popular social media network.

This beats the 35.6 million record previously set by soccer fans during the 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-final match between Germany and Brazil, according to Inquirer.net. 


The love team recently met with millions of fans during "Tamang Panahon", the noon-time show "Eat Bulaga" charity concert held last Saturday at the world's largest indoor arena, the 55,000-seater Philippine Arena. 

Netizens initially targeted 36 million tweets, to signify the show's 36 years on air, but instead managed to accumulate higher. 

Both Alden and Maine have taken to Twitter to thank their fans for the record-breaking support. 

Previously, the love team's #ALDubENforLOVE, the hashtag for their first date episode back on 26 September, generated 25.6 million tweets.
