Lorde was given a huge task at last night’s BRIT Awards, being given the honour of performing ‘Life On Mars’ with David Bowie’s former tour band in tribute to the late, great star, who tragically passed away on January 10 after battling cancer.
Annie Lennox and Gary Oldman also gave tributes to the legend, who was given a posthumous Brit Icon award.

Describing Bowis as ‘deeply embedded in the heart of British culture’, Annie said: “Influencing every decade from the moment he first appeared on the airways in 1969 right up to the present day, he expanded our horizons and turned everything on its head into glorious technicolour.
“As a songwriter and a rock star there was no one and nothing else like him, he was truly unique. A quintessential visionary, shape-shifting persona, gracious and dangerous, loved and revered for as long as the earth still spins.”
Speaking about his friend, Gary added: “I can share with you that he faced his illness with immense courage, dignity, grace and customary humour, even in dire circumstances.
