Girls creator Lena Dunham backs Kesha in powerful essay

Lena Dunham is “mad as hell and she’s not going to take it anymore”.

The Girls creator has written a powerful essay for Lenny Letter explaining why she is publicly standing by Tik Tok singer Kesha following a court decision on Friday not to grant her a preliminary injunction that would have allowed her to make music outside her recording contract with her alleged abuser.

In her passionate Lenny Letter email, Lena wrote: “When I saw the outcome of Kesha’s court case last Friday, I felt sick. Actually sick – I wanted to ask my Uber to pull over so I could throw up in a New York City trash can.”

Kesha failed to get an injunction that would stop her working with Dr Luke (real name Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald) despite her accusing her former mentor of emotional and sexual abuse going back a decade.

Gottwald has tweeted that Kesha’s rape and assault accusations against him are untrue, writing: “I have 3 sisters, a daughter, and a son with my girlfriend, and a feminist mom who raised me right.”

Kesha’s celebrity allies include Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato, while Taylor Swift donated $250,000 (£177,000) to the singer to help pay her legal fees.
