The 10th annual Asian Film Awards have recently unveiled its nomination list, with Hou Hsiao-hsien's "The Assassin" leading the pack.
According to ECNS, the martial arts drama received nine nominations including in the four major categories – Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Actress.
Meanwhile, Philip Yung's "Port of Call", which has been doing quite well at award events, received the second most nominations with five, tied with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani".
"The Assassin" star Shu Qi, who is nominated for Best Actress, will be competing against mainland actress Zhao Tao, Japan's Haruka Ayase, South Korean star Kim Hye-soo, and Hong Kong's Karena Lam.
Donnie Yen, who failed to receive a nomination in the upcoming Hong Kong Film Awards, will be competing for Best Actor against Japan's Nagase Masatoshi, mainland's Feng Xiaogang, South Korean heartthrob Lee Byung-hun, and Filipino star John Arcilla.
The Asian Film Awards will be held this 17 March in Macau.
