Channel 5’s documentary The Great British Benefits Handout is as heartwarming as it is frustrating, with three families being given a year’s supply of benefits - £26,000 - upfront, andbeing left to their own devices when it comes to spending.
Although two of the families have spent a couple of thousand pounds on necessities in the month that they’ve had the money, last night’s episode saw Scott and Leanne from Liverpool blow £18,000 in just four weeks.
Yikes.
With the family planning on opening a party-planning business, viewers were left outraged to see Scott continuously blow money on exotic animals, including lizards and a raccoon, with many concerned for the welfare of the animals.
The RSPCA are yet to publicly respond to the complaints but they have been contacted by Yahoo Celeb for comment.
The Great British Benefit Handout continues next Tuesday at 9pm.
