Fans hoping for a reunion of the original Guns N’ Roses lineup suffered a blow when guitarist Izzy Stradlin confirmed he is not involved in their upcoming shows.
On February 22nd, he tweeted: that “at this point in time” he will not be playing with his former bandmates. The announcement was immediately met with skepticism for a number of reasons: it was his very first tweet, the newly-created Twitter account was unverified, and his username @IzzyStradlin999 seemed more like an imposter than the real deal.
To clear up the mystery, Stradlin called Rolling Stone to reconfirm his non-involvement. He said in a voicemail, “…it’s me. I opened the Twitter account. There’s so much misinformation, so I wanted to clarify that I’m not in the studio recording with any of the Guns N’ Roses guys. At this point in time, I’m not involved in the actual shows…”
So far, the scheduled GNR shows during the month of April in Las Vegas, Mexico and Coachella will include three members from the classic lineup: frontman Axl Rose, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan. Stradlin’s announcement that he’s not part of the reunion caused fans to question if the shows can even be called that with one even tweeting that GNR without Izzy “is like Italy without wine!”
Stradlin had recently performed with his old bandmates as a guest in 2014. Original Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler has not yet commented on his involvement with the upcoming shows.
