Mariah Carey’s Life to Be Captured in E!’s New Documentary Series ‘Mariah's World’

Mariah Carey is coming to E! – but don’t compare her eight-part documentary series to Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

“I refuse to call it a reality show,” Carey told The New York Times of Mariah’s World, which she announced in a candid interview published on Tuesday.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be a big dose of Carey’s reality: in addition to capturing her tour in Europe and South Africa, cameras will also document the planning of her wedding to Australian billionaire James Packer, to whom she got engaged in January.

However, Packer doesn’t want to be on the show. “He’s a legit businessman,” Carey explained to the Times. “It’s not really his thing to be, like, traipsing all over Europe and hanging out with all my crew and dancers and singers.”

And even though she isn’t ruling out rare appearances from Moroccan and Monroe, her 4½-year-old twins with ex-husband Nick Cannon, the hitmaker doesn’t “want to do anything that’s exploitative,” she said, adding, “They haven’t been filmed at all yet. There might be a couple of moments, but it’s not about making them the stars of the show. They’re too young to make that decision.”

Mariah’s World is being produced by Bunim/Murray Productions, which scored its first hit with MTV’s Real World in the ‘90s before developing E!’s Keeping Up With the Kardashians and I Am Cait. Unlike those programs, Carey’s show will take cues from the documentary format, executive producer Jeff Jenkins explained to the Times.
