As the finale got under way, Twitter knew Harry Gordon Selfridge had serious money troubles, and the future of Selfridges looked worryingly uncertain as it celebrated 20 years on Oxford Street.
OK, yeah, we know the shop still exists – but still, it was always going to be a tough watch. Here’s the reasons why, as the hour of drama unfolded on ITV, people really just couldn’t keep those emotions in.
1. People didn’t handle that it was the last EVER episode of the period drama very well at all.
2. Jeremy Piven fans – he plays Harry FYI – just didn’t want to have to say goodbye.
3. Harry told the wonderfully glamorous Lady Mae that he loved her…but she walked away *cries*
4. SERIOUS SPOILER ALERT. No-one could get over that someone, well, pretty important got stabbed in the back – and fired.
5. They only went and showed a montage of Harry’s memories of running the store to, you know, really hammer it home…
6. Then we saw the staff line up to say goodbye. STOP, THIS IS TOO MUCH.\
