David Bowie’s widow Iman opened up about her successful marriage to the late rock star on TV mogul Oprah Winfrey just before his death in January.
The 60-year-old supermodel is the subject of Oprah: Where Are They Now?, which is being broadcast on the mogul’s OWN network this weekend in the US.
In an interview recorded just before the Let’s Dance singer lost his cancer fight, Somali-born Iman talked about her life with the much-loved star.
“We both understand the difference between the person and the persona,” she said in the teaser clip. “When we are home, we are just Iman and David. We’re not anybody else.”
The couple were married in 1992, two years after they met. Together, they have a daughter named Alexandria.
Iman also has daughter Zulekha from her 10-year marriage to American basketball player Spencer Haywood, which ended in divorce in 1987.
On the subject of wedded bliss, Iman said timing was important. “I think the secret to a lasting marriage is timing, first of all.”
She added: “You have to be at the right time in your life that you’re ready for an ever-lasting relationship, that it becomes first, a priority in your life.”
