Gangster rap pioneers NWA have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The ground-breaking music group were honoured at a ceremony at Brooklyn’s Barclays Centre in New York.
Dr Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella attended the event to receive the accolade.
Fellow original member Eazy-E died of complications from Aids in 1995.
NWA, whose songs include F*** the police, Boyz-N-The Hood and Straight Outta Compton, hit back at suggestions that rappers did not belong in the Hall of Fame.
Some traditional rockers, including Kiss star Gene Simmons, had voiced opposition.
In response, MC Ren said: “I want to say to Gene Simmons, hip-hop is here forever. Get used to it.”
Ice Cube said. “Rock ‘n’ roll is not conforming to the people who came before you but creating your own path in music and in life. That is rock ‘n’ roll and that is us.”
Rock acts Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple and Steve Miller were also inducted.
