Charlize Theron kept her distance from her reported ex-fiance Sean Penn at a photocall for their new film The Last Face in Cannes on Friday (20May16).
Almost a year on from their last appearance as a couple on the red carpet at the famed film festival, the couple who split after 18 months together, attended a photocall to promote Sean's directorial effort.
The pair posed with members of the cast firmly between them, and avoided sitting near each other at the following press conference.
Their appearance comes after Charlize reportedly 'ghosted' or cut contact with Sean after last year's Cannes Film Festival (15). And relations still seemed pretty chilly as star and director were reunited in front of the world's media.
The couple began dating in December 2013 and Us Weekly reported that they had become secretly engaged a year later, however the two never confirmed the reports.
In June 2015 it was suggested that Charlize had ceased all contact with Sean, including text messages and calls, after they spent time together promoting her film Mad Max: Fury Road in Cannes.
Charlize denied the so-called 'ghosting' reports and in a candid interview with WSJ magazine in April, she said: "There is a need to sensationalise things. When you leave a relationship there has to be some f***ing crazy story or some crazy drama.
"And the f**king ghosting thing, like literally, I still don’t even know what it is. It’s just its own beast. We were in a relationship and then it didn’t work anymore. And we both decided to separate. That’s it."
Charlize and Sean posed up with cast members Jared Harris, Jean Reno, Javier Bardem, and Adele Exarchopoulos. The actress looked elegant in a shell pink scalloped dress and black strappy sandals, with her trademark platinum blonde hair gently curled.
