Courteney Cox to play 'kooky' American in UK sitcom

Friends star Courteney Cox has spoken of her plans to play a “kooky” American in a new British sitcom.

The actress said she is hoping to film a comedy in the UK called Truthing, in which she plays a character at the head of an “emotional rehab” centre.

Courteney, 51, was speaking on the red carpet of the BMI Pop Music Awards in Los Angeles, where she appeared with her partner, Snow Patrol guitarist Johnny McDaid, who is from Northern Ireland.

She told the Press Association: “It’s a show called Truthing. It’s like an emotional rehab led by an American kind of kooky person – myself.”

Asked whether she would film the sitcom in Britain, Courteney replied: “I hope so, that’s the plan.”

According to entertainment website Deadline, ITV has won the right to co-produce the show which is expected to start filming next year.

She will play the charismatic founder and leader of a cult-like organisation at a healing retreat that promotes “personal growth, transformational experience and inner well-being”, Deadline said.

The production company behind the show, Big Talk, produced the BBC comedy Rev and is responsible for the return of Cold Feet to ITV, it was reported.

Courteney is best known for her role as Monica Geller on US sitcom Friends, in which she starred alongside Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer for 10 years until 2004.
