Liam Payne joins girlfriend Cheryl at Cannes Film Festival

Liam Payne and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini are continuing their French getaway by heading to Cannes Film Festival. The couple travelled to the south of France on Wednesday, and Liam couldn't resist sharing a selfie of himself and the former Girls Aloud star on their private jet.

The 22-year-old appeared happy in the black-and-white selfie, which shows him cosying up to Cheryl, who pouts while wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses.

"#cannes," he captioned the photo, which attracted over 220,000 likes within the first hour of being posted to Instagram.

Cheryl is attending Cannes in her role as a L'Oreal Paris ambassador, and it is believed Liam may join his girlfriend on the red carpet at one of the film festival's premieres. However they could face a potentially awkward meeting with Cheryl's ex-husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, who is also attending the annual film festival.

Just a few weeks ago, Cheryl denied allegations that she had an affair with Liam prior to filing for divorce from her ex-husband, definitively labelling the accusations as "false".
