TVB producer Sandy Yu denied that the new format of Miss Hong Kong was to rival ViuTV's new show, "The Queen of DNA".
As reported on Oriental Daily, on 1 June, the company announced that it will combine Miss Hong Kong and Mr. Hong Kong pageant this year, instead of using the previous format separating the two.
The move sparked speculations that the company felt challenged by its new rival ViuTV's aforementioned new show, which was advertised as a pageant with no age limit.
When asked about it recently, Sandy stressed that TVB has been planning to join Miss Hong Kong and Mr. Hong Kong together for a long time.
"When we promoted myTV SUPER a few months ago, we announced that we will bring back Mr. Hong Kong. And since Miss Hong Kong has been using the same format for many years, I think it's time to change it," she said.
Sandy also stressed that viuTV's new show was nothing new, since ATV had once tried similar format.
"It's not a fresh idea," she said.
