Last night's Love Island may have been all about Jack Fincham walking in on Wes Nelson and Megan Barton Hanson's daytime loving TWICE, and Alex George joining the Do Bits Society – but fans were also appreciating Jack Fowler speaking candidly about his emotions during a chat he was having with the other Islanders about love.
During the conversation in the kitchen area with Alexandra Cane, Paul Knops and Josh Denzel, new Jack ruminated: "Every time you fall in love with someone, it's a different type of love."
Talking about a previous girlfriend breaking his heart, Jack said: "When it ended I was heartbroken, I was like, 'Rah what is this pain? What kind of pain is this?' It's nothing physical. It's emotional. I didn't eat. I lost weight.
"I was crying all the time. It enhances you so much."
Recalling a particularly painful moment after splitting up with a girlfriend, he continued: "I went to the shop and I walked past the soup aisle and saw a tin of tomato soup, and I burst out crying because the last time I was in the shop I bought that soup for her."
Jack later reflected on his honesty in the Beach Hut, concluding: "Especially being a guy, it's sometimes hard to voice how you feel. I have been through heartbreak. Talking to the others was quite refreshing because as guys, we don't normally do it."
Viewers applauded the semi-professional footballer for quashing "toxic masculinity" and breaking the stigma attached to men talking about mental health issues by speaking honestly about his feelings and admitting to crying over heartbreak.
