Great news, gang - you can now apply to be on the next series of Love Island.
To welcome 2020 with a bang, ITV has announced that there will be not one but TWO series of Love Island in 2020. The regular one, set in Majorca as usual, plus a winter Love Island, which will see Islanders having a swell time in a villa in South Africa. This series will air in the UK at the beginning of the year. And the best part? Applications for the winter version of Love Island are officially open!
So, if you fancy yourself as the next Maura Higgins, and quite like the idea of heading to South Africa to beat the January blues, here's what you need to know:
The online application page reads:
"ITV2 are looking for vibrant singles from across the UK who want to head to the winter sun in search of love!
"Love Island will be back for 2020 and we're now on the lookout for people to take part.
"Our Islanders will spend time in a luxury villa in the hope of finding love, but to remain in paradise they must win the hearts of the public and their fellow Islanders, who ultimately decide their fate on Love Island.
"If you think you’ve got what it takes, then we want to hear from you!
"Apply now by clicking here if you’re over 18, and you could be spending your winter in paradise!"
You are then prompted to fill out the initial application form.
Okay, okay. Let's take a minute to calm down. Because if you do end up applying for Love Island, how do you actually get picked? That’s what everyone wants to know right. Right? We reached out to the show's producers to find out just exactly why they made it and how you could too.
The application process
First things first, there is a proper application process through Love Island’s website (see above). If you were super keen and completed a 'registration form' in 2018 to just let ITV know you were interested, you now have to fill in the full application.
ITV stresses that you must be 18 years old by the closing date for entries to apply.
There is a closing date for entries this year which is 30th November 2019.
However, the application process is not the only way they find their contestants, having a strong social media game is key, casting producer for the show Lewis Evans says.
“We also cast our net far and wide by looking at social media profiles (Twitter and Instagram) as it’s always quite easy to gauge on there people who are popular, aren’t afraid to show themselves off and have a big following. We also attend events and hold street castings for prospective Islanders. The key is that they are over 18, single and looking for love.”
If you catch the producers' attention (which is tricky, some reports estimated that for the 2018 series there was around 85,000 ) there is then an audition process and numerous interviews, which we’re guessing wouldn’t be your run-of-the-mill “Where do you see yourself in five years time?” questions we’re used to.
