10 Newcomers to look forward to in 2020

Starting with Siddharth Chaturvedi in Gully Boy, Ananya Panday in Student of the Year 2, and Karan Deol in Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, we saw many new faces in 2019.

Familiar faces like Mohit Raina and Tara Sutaria, who already had remarkable careers on television, also got their respective big screen debuts that year, leaving us fairly impressed with their acting chops in Uri: The Surgical Strike, and SOTY2.

While most of them have movies lined up to release this year, 2020 is going to be exciting with an entire fresh lot of actors, celeb offspring and renowned TV actors making their Bollywood debuts.

Ahan Shetty

Following the footsteps of his father and sister, Suniel Shetty's son is all set to take the leap of faith in the Bollywood space. The star-kid will be debuting with the Hindi remake of 2018 Telugu hit, RX 100. The spitting image of his father, Ahan just like his father, will mark his entry with an action-packet film, with Tara Sutaria as his heroine.

Isabelle Kaif

This debut has been long overdue and finally being realized, as Katrina Kaif’s younger sister takes to the silver screen with Kwatha. A movie directed by Karan Lalit Butani, Kwatha introduces the star-sibling opposite Salman Khan’s brother-in-law and Loveyatri star, Ayush Sharma. It has been shot in the scenic locations of Manipur, and we get to hear that the story-line of this romantic-drama has been inspired by real incidents.

Alaia Furniturewala

The year is going to rain celeb kids and siblings. The next one all geared up for her dazzling debut is Kabir Bedi’s granddaughter and Pooja Bedi’s daughter, Alaya Furniturewala. Her star-studded first, Jawaani Jaaneman, in which she will be seen as Saif Ali Khan’s daughter, is all set to hit theaters on January 31st. Though the coming-of-age comedy centers around Saif Ali Khan’s character, Alaya seems content with the part trusted to her. In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, she shares, “The audience will not just get to see me perform but will also get a little glimpse into my real life.”

Lulia Vantur

Though they have never confirmed or denied their relationship status, speculations of Salman Khan dating Lulia have been going strong for a couple of years now. The Romanian beauty will be essaying a Polish girl in Prem Soni's directorial next, Radha Kyun Gori Main Kyun Kaala. The movie, with a strong social message, is all set to release in March this year.

Shirley Setia

She maybe making her big screen debut this year, but Shirley is a familiar face among the vast fan-base she has collected on the internet through her beautiful renditions of many popular songs. She will now be seen sharing screen-space with Shilpa Shetty and Abhimanyu Dassani in a Bollywood rom-com, Nikamma, due for a release this June.

Lakshya

This new comer bagged his first Bollywood film after convincing Karan Johar through a rigorous audition process. The filmmaker reveals in an had auditioned numerous actors to find the "suitable boy" for his next venture, which will be a sequel to his 2008 Priyanka-Abhishek-John starrer, Dostana. Lakshya will share screen space with Janhvi Kapoor and Kartik Aryan.

Sanjana Sanghi

Though you know her from Ranbir Kapoor-Nargis Fakhri starrer Rockstar, it has been nine years since you saw her as the main lead’s sister. Sanjana will now play the leading lady opposite Sushant Singh Rajput in the Hindi remake of The Fault in our Stars, Dil Bechara. Shailene Woodley was exceptional in the 2014 American drama; its going to be one tough job to recreate 'Hazel Grace Lancaster' and give her a desi personality.

Krystle D’souza

After earning unbounded fame for her roles in Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai and Kasauti Zindagi Kay 2, this beauty is waiting to take over the big screen. Her first Bollywood project is Chehre and she would be cast alongside Emraan Hashmi and Amitabh Bachchan in this mystery thriller.

Manushi Chhillar

The 2017 Miss World would be seen as Akshay Kumar’s queen in this year’s mega Diwali release, Prithviraj. The historical drama, helmed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, as suggested by the title, narrates the story of the fearless king of the 12th century, Prithviraj Chauhan. It must be a matter of great honor for the former Miss World to not only play 'Princess Samyukta', but to make an entry into the industry as her. If this is not a grand debut, we don’t know what would be.

Shalini Pandey

The Arjun Reddy actress bagged her first Hindi film with Yash Raj Films and has been cast opposite Raveer Singh in Divyang Thakkar's character comedy, Jayeshbhai Jordaar. For those who don't know yet, Arjun Reddy was a super-hit Telugu movie, and was remade in Hindi as Kabir Singh. Shalini, who had debuted with Arjun Reddy, was showered with praises from all directions for her brilliant performance.

Do you know that the South Indian film Industry is just as huge as the Hindi film Industry in Mumbai? It has a massive market outside India and fetches almost similar and at times greater returns.

This is why the industry, popularly known as Tollywood, has attracted actors from all over. The welcoming audience body never bore barriers in mind and showered these actors with unbounded love and followership.

Here are 10 actresses from North India - some have even worked in Hindi films - , who have massive careers in the South.

Kajal Aggarwal

Hailing from a Bombay-based Punjabi family, Kajal made her movie debut in 2004, playing Aishwarya Rai's sister in Kyun! Ho Gaya Na... But, Bollywood had nothing to offer to this very talented actress who found a whole different world of staggering success in South cinema. Chandamama, Thuppakki and Magadheera are some of her biggest successes, and she has bagged the CineMAA Awards and Vijay Award for Favorite Heroine for her acting chops.

Kriti Kharbanda

Fans of Hindi cinema have started to recognize Kriti for being the sweet Aarti Shukla from Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana. But the actress has a decade of acting career under her belt. Kriti's show biz career commenced in 2009, with the Telugu movie, Boni. She has since been in dozens of Telugu and Kannada movies. She is from a Punjabi family that settled in Bangalore back in the 90s.

Bhumika Chawla

Though, average Bollywood viewers won't remember Bhumika beyond Tere Naam, she was also seen dancing within Abhishek Bachchan in Run. She has completed 20 successful years in acting. The girl from a Punjabi family, who was educated in New Delhi, carved a stellar career for herself in the South. Bhumika has acted in over 50 movies in varied languages including Telugu, Tamil and Malyalam and turned producer with the 2010 release, Thakita Thakita.

Shalini Panday

The theater artist from Jabalpur bagged her first film in Tollywood, which turned out to be the blockbuster Arjun Reddy. This was the movie that was redone in Hindi as Kabir Singh. Since her 2017 debut, the MP girl has been rocking the cine screens down South, despite not knowing the language at all. Shalini will be making her Bollywood debut with Jayeshbhai Jordaar slotted to release in May this year.

Jyothika Sadanah Saravanan

Born to a Punjabi father and Maharashtrian mother, Jyothika hit gold in films made in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. Back in 1998, she had starred in Priyadarshan's Doli Saja Ke Rakhna, which remains to be her only Hindi gig. Few of her critically acclaimed performances can be seen in Snegithiye, Perazhagan, and Chandramukhi. The actress is married to Tamil film personality Suriya and the couple is blessed with two children.

Charmi Kaur

She did the opening bit for the catchy 'Gandi Baat' in R. Rajkumar. But don't take her for a background dancer or 'item girl'. Charmee has a 17-year-long run as an actress in Tollywood, and adds to the long list of successful Punjabi actresses who are dominating the South cinema industry. You may or may not remember her in Rani-Kareena-Hrithik starrer Mujhse Dosti Karoge, but her stint in Telugu films is anything but forgettable. The two times CineMAA Awards winner has also turned a co-producer recently.

Hansika Motwani

After working in umpteen television shows as a child artist, she booked herself a spot beside Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta in Koi Mil Gaya. And then, a blink-of-an-eye later, she was romancing Himesh Reshamiya and Govinda who were more than twice her age at then. Talk about disturbing pairings in Bollywood. After movies like Aap Ka Suroor and Money Hai Toh Honey Hai, the Sindhi beauty turned toward Tollywood for good and bagged the Filmfare Best Female Debut for Desamuduru. Hansika works predominantly in Telugu movies, with occasional Malayalam and Tamil gigs.

Taapsee Pannu

Before essaying the iconic Meenal Arora in Pink, Taapsee had earned a reputation for herself in Telugu and Tamil movies. The Punjabi-Sikh girl from Ashok Vihar Delhi marked her acting debut with Jhummandi Naadam in 2010 and was seen in three consecutive releases in 2011. Fun fact: Taapsee was pursuing was a student of Computer Science Engineering from Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology, when acting chose her.

Tamannaah

Her fans call her 'Milky beauty' and we opine, she bears a resemblance to the 90s sensation Karisma Kapoor. The early memories we have of this diva are from the music video, Lafzon Mein Keh Na Sakoon. At 15-years-old, Tamannaah made her debut in Telugu films with Sri, the same year her Hindi release, Chaand Sa Roshan Chehra had tanked badly at the box office. She was loved in Happy Days, a Telugu movie which did amazing business in theaters across India. There has been no looking back for this Panjaban, and she reigns as one of the best actresses in their industry.

Rakul Preet Singh

Its amazing how girls from far north find such a strong appeal with fans from in the South. We could keep counting for days, but we wrap this one here with Rakul. The Yaariyan actress spent 6 years in Tollywood before being discovered by Divya Khosla Kumar for her directorial debut. With movies like Aiyaary, De De Pyar De, and the upcoming Shimla Mirch, Rakul has started frequenting the multiplexe screens running Hindi films, but her career in south in still running parallel and strong.

When it came to fashion, 2019 was a year that well and truly saw the decade out with a bang.

With boundaries never more flexible, and skin never more exposed, it may be fair to label the year fashion’s most risqué yet as outrageously revealing trends stepped off the catwalk and into everyday life.

In a decade that saw the rise of the #metoo movement, the increase in voices of marginalised women thanks to social media, and fight to maintain women’s equality, it’s perhaps no surprise that the decade’s final year reflected that with daring trends that shed fabric and flashed skin in a bold display.

Put it down to the rise of the influencer, or the decline of the patriarchy, but people everywhere were more comfortable than ever baring plenty of skin, and leaving virtually nothing to the imagination.

Kicking off the list has to be the clothing-free festival trend that turned the world’s most adhesive craft item into a fashion statement.

It is of course.... the glitterboob trend.

Glitterboobs

A creature that first reared its head in 2017, the glitterboob is included this year for sticking around so decisively, and arguably peaking in 2019.

The look became synonymous with festival wear after it burst into Glastonbury leaving eyebrows-raised and pearls clutched in its wake.

The brainchild of artist Sophie Tea, the trend involves covering the nipples with pasties and decorating the exposed breast with glitter, rhinestones, anything that falls to hand, really.

Still going strong as we sashay into the new decade, the glitterboob was more than a fashion statement, it was a reclamation of female anatomy as part of the #freethenipple movement rocked social media platforms across the decade.

The see-through/ naked dress

An absolute staple of 2019 fashion, the naked dress was born and took its first steps in the early years of the decade, but 2019 saw it unfurl its wings and fly.

From the barely-opaque, to mesh, to artful cut-outs, and strategically-placed detailing, the naked dress was elevated to star status when it hit red carpets, barely covering some very famous figures.

This year, however, the look hit the mainstream with online retailers selling out of affordable, every-day options and redefining what is acceptable for everyday wear.

Perhaps the most famous everyday version this year was Oh Polly’s white see-through corset dress that flew off the proverbial shelf.

Barely-bikinis

This year saw bikinis tinier than we could have imagined, with naked plastic string version taking out top spot in our books.

This particular bikini is literally a pencil-sized stip of material held together with plastic strings giving the illusion of near-nudity.

Think those awkward g-strings that spray tan places make you wear, but smaller and fitted.

Other standouts were the bathers so high-cut they were rather unfortunately but accurately nicknamed ‘fanny floss’ online due to the logic-defying coverage available for intimate areas.

And highly commended goes to the ‘child-sized’ micro bikinis that skimped on coverage leaving plenty of underboob exposed.

Naked wedding dress

Perhaps the boldest move this year was reimagining the most traditional of dresses, the wedding dress.

Raising eyebrows galore was the new spin on the wedding dress, the naked wedding dress.

Mainly coming from the floaty designs of New York-based fashion house Berta, the newest trend seems to stick firmly to the less is more mindset, and showcases intricate detailing on a completely sheer base layer.

Assless chaps

A flash in the pan, but one that left a lasting impression, the assless chaps were a festival look that had onlookers well... looking.

Cropping up initially at Coachella on the likes of James Charles and making a cheeky appearance at Splendour in the Grass, the look left wearers’ asses exposed, needless to say creating a rather bold effect.

Check out some of the highlights of the trend.

The sideflank

Giving the nude wedding gown’s a run for their money, the in-your-face sideflank hit the mainstream this year raising eyebrows and questions about the underwear, or lack therof, involved.

Typically executed with an evening gown, the sideflank features one or two splits in the skirt of the dress that ride so high, they typically expose the entire thigh, and hip bone.

Kendall Jenner showed everyone how to work it with not much material covering her legs at the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party, and other celebs like JLo and Tammy Hembrow gave the trend their own spins.

Variations of the trend include the cut-out pant which was popularised by 2019 teen show Euphoria and sparked a string of copycat looks that left a lot exposed.

Joey Feek may be gone, but certainly not forgotten.

The country singer -- who died on March 4 after a long battle with terminal cancer -- was honored at the Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday night in Las Vegas.

During the beautiful tribute, which was presented by Darius Rucker and Martina McBride, a photo of Joey appeared on the screen, which immediately received a standing ovation from the star-studded audience.

"A few weeks ago, we lost a member of our country music family with the passing of Joey Feek," Rucker began.

McBride chimed in, saying, "Joey was more than a wonderful singer and an ACM winner along with her husband, Rory -- she was a beloved mom, daughter, family member and friend."

"Of all the different ways we could honor Joey, we think that what would mean the most to Joey and her family is just one more time for all of us -- all of her fans and all of us who loved her -- to give her a big round of applause," Rucker added.

Kesha’s painful record deal row is still rolling on.

The singer has now suggested she was made an offer in which she would be allowed out of her recording contract – if she admitted she “lied” about allegedly being sexually assaulted.

A judge ruled in February the Tik Tok hitmaker could not be released from her exclusive deal with producer Dr Luke and Sony Music despite claiming she had been abused by the producer.

She’s now hinted the company had offered her “freedom" in exchange for making a public apology for her claims.

Kesha, above, posted on Instagram: ‘So. I got offered my freedom IF I were to lie. I would have to APOLOGIIE publicly and say that I never got raped. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors.’

But the 29-year-old star insisted she would rather her career be over than withdraw her allegations.

She added: ‘I will not take back the TRUTH. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again.’

Last month it was reported that Kendall Jenner had ranted to her famous sisters about Harry Styles having an unpleasant body odour in an upcoming episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

The Daily Star published a report that claimed Kendall was fed-up with the One Direction star’s stench, which apparently went “beyond BO”, with the tabloid claiming that footage saw Kendall explain she’d “begged” the star to “shower more”, even quipping “a little deodorant never hurts”.

Now the publication has issued an official apology to Harry for the false report, removing the original story and saying that it is sorry for the wholly inaccurate article that was written back on February 21st.

The official statement reads: “In an article published on February 21 we said that Kendall Jenner had accused Harry Styles of having ‘breathtaking’ body odour that goes 'beyond BO’ and had 'asked him to shower more’ on an upcoming episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

"We have been advised that this was not true and we are happy to set the record straight.”

All we have to say is that we ruddy knew it, we mean, Harry clearly smells of freshly cut grass, cookies baking in the oven, a bouquet of roses, and a whole load of other delightful things - and most definitely not BO.

Dame Judi Dench has made history at the Olivier Awards as she has now won more Oliviers for acting than any other performer.

The veteran star was named best actress in a supporting role for The Winter’s Tale at the ceremony held at London’s Royal Opera House.

Her win for her role as Paulina in the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company’s production takes her collection of Olivier Awards to eight.

As she collected her award, she joked she was “livid” as her win meant she had lost a bet with her grandson.

She said: “Ladies and gentlemen, I’m absolutely livid as I had a bet with my grandson … and I’m never going to be able to forget it.”

She praised “a really fantastic company and crew and stage management”, saying of the award: “It’s lovely to have, but in actual fact it belongs to all those people just as much as it belongs to me.”

Sherlock creator Mark Gatiss joined the prestigious winners’ list as he was named best actor in a supporting role for Three Days In The Country.

He said: “I’m absolutely overwhelmed, I can’t tell you what this means to me. It was an amazing performance and a gift of a part.

Los Angeles is always buzzing with stars, but none shone quite as brightly as Taylor Swift did at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on Sunday night -- or handed out as many hugs.

The 26-year-old pop star nabbed the Best Tour Award days ahead of the show, and night of, she snagged Female Artist of the Year and Album of the year (1989), on top of five additional nominations.

Justin Timberlake presented Swift with the Female Artist award, and he had nothing but glowing things to say about his excited buddy from last year's show.

"I am very happy to be back with all of you in this arena to help honor a great young woman who has accomplished extraordinary things in arenas, in stadiums all around our world," Timberlake said on stage. "From the start, this talented singer, songwriter and performer born in 1989 has been elevating the place of music in our lives. Breaking world records as a recording artist and bringing all types of people together in big and little ways as a touring sensation. She has won over 250 awards to date I don't know how that is mathematically possible."

No prizes for guessing who Keith Urban's No. 1 fan is -- it is clearly Nicole Kidman!

The Oscar-winning actress gushed about her husband's upcoming album, Ripcord, to ET at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday night. "It is such a crazy good album," Kidman told us.

"I've been living with all the songs -- and even the songs that didn't make the album. I've seen the work he puts into it and the love. He's a musician, so every little tiny detail is all him, and I love that. I love that he's passionate about his music."

All those compliments made the "Wasted Time" singer blush! The modesty was unwarranted, though, as Urban's fiery performance during the award show proved.

Meanwhile, we were No. 1 fans of Kidman's A-list red carpet look! She brought the couture glam wearing a sheer Alexander McQueen dress with embroidered embellishments.

The celeb couple revealed they are frequent visitors to Sin City -- and that Kidman is a bit of a gambler! "She's very good," Urban said. "She's disciplined."

"Well I'm not very good. I have a little amount of money, I go and bet that and then I'm done," the Secret in Their Eyes actress admitted. "I'm that kind of gambler, I'm not going to bet the house."

Assuming for a moment that you probably aren’t a despicable racist, could you ever imagine sitting down and listening to 13 whole cassette tapes of Mark Fuhrman casually using the n-word several thousand times while bragging about beating up innocent black people? That feels like a tall order for anybody, let alone people with consciences. One assumes that these tapes miiight’ve included less horrible topics — Mark Fuhrman’s preferred food item at Wendy’s or his favorite Seinfeld episodes perhaps? — but the worst and most disgusting parts of those tapes certainly overshadow everything else. Go ahead and label those tapes “Bad Times” and use a Sharpie.

Depending on whether you sided with the defense or the prosecution in the O.J. Simpson trial, those tapes may have just been “Manna From Heaven.” In fact, that’s what this week’s episode was titled! It’s worth pointing out that in the Old Testament’s version of events, the manna from Heaven did not involve so many uses of the n-word, at least not in any Bible I’m familiar with. Yet here was Johnnie Cochran, praising the Lord for 13 cassette tapes’ worth of abject hate-speech. See, these weren’t just recordings of a bad cop saying bad things, they were a confirmation of the darkest fears anyone’s ever harbored toward law enforcement. So, uh, thanks, Mark Fuhrman? Like, jump in a grave, but also thanks in a way?

Guys, this was a very upsetting episode of TV! But sometimes necessary things are upsetting, and “Manna From Heaven” felt necessary and essential. Let’s talk about it!

Simon Cowell has been revealing some behind-the-scenes secrets from Britain’s Got Talent, explaining that Amanda Holden was actually Cheryl’s replacement on the judging panel, and that now, she’s here to stay.

Copyright [Tom Dymond/ITV]

Chatting to the Radio Times, Simon revealed that Cheryl originally signed up to sit on the BGT panel when the show started in 2007, but after she pulled out at the last-minute, Amanda was drafted in as her replacement - and the rest, as they say, is history.

He explained: “Cheryl [Fernandez-Versini] was supposed to be in Amanda’s place, but with days to go she backed out. We called ITV and they suggested two people — one was Amanda and the other was a girl on Corrie. Now I couldn’t imagine doing the show without Amanda.

“She enjoys every minute of it, never gets fed up, is easy to work with and is the voice of the public.”

Number one: Was it Daryl’s blood that splashed onto the screen at the end of “East,” and if so, how badly was Mr. Dixon injured… i.e., should plans for mass rioting begin?

But there are plenty of other TWD mysteries lingering from throughout Season 6, and with the finale — “Last Day on Earth” — kicked up to 90 minutes, here’s hoping the majority of them will be answered before the Alexandrians and their new friends and foes ride off into the primetime sunset until next fall.

Who will be the first victim of Negan and Lucille?

What will Carl do with Negan’s gun?

What happened to Nicholas’s son?

Did Negan witness Daryl killing that group of motorcycle-riding Saviors in the midseason premiere?

What is Enid’s secret?

Will Carol and Morgan reunite with their friends?

Will Maggie and her baby survive?

Are all the Wolves dead?

What happened to Honey, the woman who was with Dwight when they met and ripped off Daryl?

Who is Wade, the guy who came looking for Dwight, Honey and Tina in the woods?

Will the lone surviving truck Savior from “East” catch up with Carol?

Was the armored man in “East” a member of The Saviors, as Rick suspected, or a member of The Kingdom?
