My cousin, Sonu, got mortified to death when my aunt pulled the old album and showed his babyhood pictures to his girlfriend. The reason is my aunt always wanted a daughter but couldn’t have one, so she would dress up her youngest son as a girl when he was little. I tried to calm him down by listing down these celebs who came out cross-dressed in front of the whole world, well, for movies of course.
Govinda – Those were the days of the No. 1 movies from Govinda and those were the days the sun shone brightly on this multi-talented star. Though most of the No. 1 movies that Chichi starred in were directed by David Dhawan, Govinda dressed as a gorgeous middle aged woman in Aunti No. 1 made by elder brother Kirti Kumar. Mostly seen in colorful clothing, this 1998 movie was perhaps the actor’s most colorful performance. (Screen Grab from Video)
Kamal Hasan – Kamal Hasan is the king of camouflage. So when it chanced upon him to play a woman one could have only expected better than the best. Playing Tabu’s estranged husband who strives to stay connected to his daughter, Hasan’s character Jaiprakash takes to the get up of an elderly lady caretaker. It used to take stretched hours to perfect the get up of Chachi and we completely understand why. (https://in.lifestyle.yahoo.com/)
Aamir Khan – Though Aamir cross-dressed to appear ridiculous in the song, Dole Dole Dil Dole, his delicate features actually transformed into a really pretty dancer. Wallowed in his own charm Aamir reached for the lipstick again for the series of ad campaign called Zindagi Muskuraye. (https://in.news.yahoo.com/photos/nauheed-is-in-love-with-aamir-slideshow/)
Ritesh Deshmukh – Next in the list has to be the gorgeous Sania from Apna Sapna Money Money played by Ritesh Deshmukh. To bring out the feminine side of his personality, the very good looking husband of Genelia Deshmukh even shaved his arms, legs and chest, that too twice a day. Quite an effort well paid off. Though the movie failed to register in our memories, we will always remember Sania. (Screen Grab from Video)
Rani Mukherjee - I don’t get what is it with sports and crossdressing anyway. Here is another one with a similar concept. If you think only men have braved crossdressing, you must have forgotten Rani Mukherjee in Dil Bole Hadippa. Well, I don’t blame you for forgetting this YRF travesty. But then, Rani Mukherjee could only enter the Indian cricket team if dressed as a sikh boy… umm well, nevermind! (Screen Grab from Video)
Before we wrap up let’s give a shout out to Rishi Kapoor for his get up in Rafoo Chakkar, Ahshay Kumar and Deepak Tijori in Khiladi, Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor in Golmaal Returns and Ram Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in Humshakals, and my cousin Sonu, for being such a cute little girl in the old family album.
