Lupita Nyong'o will be a protective parent

Actress Lupita Nyong'o will be a fiercely protective parent, just like her new The Jungle Book wolf mother character.

The 12 Years a Slave star plays wolf den mum Raksha, who raises jungle orphan Mowgli as her own in director Jon Favreau's new movie adaptation of the classic Rudyard Kipling tale, and she reveals her maternal instinct kicked in as she prepared for the challenging role.

She points anyone interested in what she'll be like as a mother to the film, insisting her parenting style will be close to her character's.

"I always fantasised about motherhood," the Yale University educated actress revealed during an appearance on Live! with Kelly and Michael on Thursday (14Apr16). "I loved to babysit my cousins. I just loved children since I was really young. I think I'm going to be fiercely enamoured with my child.

"I don't think I'm going to be able to take my eyes off of my child. I feel like I'm going to be extremely protective because I'm protective of my friends' babies and children. I'm very protective already."

She has a big family to draw from when she does start thinking about starting a family - Lupita is one of six kids born to a former college professor and politician and a communications entrepreneur, who the Mexican-Kenyan star looked to for inspiration as she created her The Jungle Book character.
