How Nigerian boy accused of being a witch looks like now

A couple of months back, the heart-wrenching image of a starving toddler, wandering naked through the streets of Nigeria captured the attention of the world.

The little one was abandoned by his family after they believed him to be a witch, and he was forced to survive on whatever being thrown to him by passersby for months, until a Danish aid worker spotted him on the streets.

When Anja Ringgren Loven — the founder of African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation — spotted the forlorn two-year-old, she immediately took him to the nearest local hospital, but not before giving him water and some biscuits.

The image of the emaciated child drinking water from the bottle went viral on the internet, after Anja shared the same on her facebook page.

The boy was named ‘Hope’, and was later taken to Anja’s shelter place, where several other neglected kids like him are being taken care of. Hope’s rescue prompted Anja to launch the ‘Hope campaign — dedicated to the rights of abandoned children.

Anja has shared the latest photo of Hope on Instagram a day back, where he looks hale and hearty, and is all smiles.

The African Children’s  Education and Development Foundation was founded by Anja and her husband David Emmanuel Umem in 2012. Prior to that, she used to work as a store manager in her country before moving to Nigeria and dedicating her life for philanthropy. Her foundation provides medical care, food and schooling for rescued children.
