Lauryn Hill has promised to “make it up” to fans who are angry that she arrived more than two hours late to a concert and then performed for fewer than 40 minutes.
The musician wrote on Facebook that she doesn’t show up to concerts late because she doesn’t care, but because of the artistic process.
“The challenge is aligning my energy with the time, taking something that isn’t easily classified or contained, and trying to make it available for others,” she wrote.
“I don’t have an on/off switch. I am at my best when I am open, rested, sensitive and liberated to express myself as truthfully as possible.”
Lauryn also pointed out that for every show she has arrived to late, there are performances where she has gone beyond what she was hired to do.
She said she would announce more details of how she plans to “make it up to” fans as she has them.
