Singer-songwriter Tanya Chua angered Hong Kong fans recently after changing her "Lemuria Tour" venue from Hong Kong Coliseum to China's Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre.
As reported on Liberty Times News, the singer, whose application to hold the concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum this year was declined due to a clash in schedule, was surprised upon being criticised by Hong Kong Netizens over the choice of the sports centre in mainland China rather than another venue on the island.
Some fans even listed several other appropriate venues in Hong Kong that Tanya could have chosen from, and even used the example of Leon Lai's open-air concert as another appropriate way to hold a show in the area.
"Hong Kong and China are two different places," said one commenter.
"To ask Hong Kong people to go to Shenzhen is a bit humiliating," said another.
The singer's management company had since clarified the situation. Its rep explained that Tanya's wish was to make her concert debut in Hong Kong at the Coliseum, but was unable to do so, and thus has chosen a venue which is closer to the island.
They also apologised for unintentionally hurting the feelings and sentiment of Hong Kong people and promised to hold the concert in a different venue in the area if they still fail to get their original choice.
