'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia': 5 Things You Always Wanted to Know

FXX picked up It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia for at least two more seasons; the first of those seasons (its eleventh) begins tonight. By then, it will have tied for the second longest running live-action comedy in television history. It’s a strange honor for a show that seemed destined to live fast and die young; the only shows that have met or beaten that record are My Three Sons and Ozzie and Harriet.

The secret to their success seems to be, in part, that old cliché of a cast being like family. “I love being with these nuts,” says co-star Danny DeVito (Frank). “They’re like my kids. I miss them when I’m not with them.” But it’s also the sense of freedom and creativity they have on the set which inspires them to make each other laugh, which gives them a greater sense of freedom and creativity. Despite larger budgets, star/executive producer Charlie Day (Charlie) says, “We’ve maintained the spirit we had as young men in our apartments holding cameras. Which is just, ‘Point the camera, turn it on, and then everything goes.’ It’s good for comedy.”
