Hitting the Wall: When Your Favorite Show Runs Out of Ideas

For those shows that we truly love, there is a part of them that wants them to remain on the air forever. We can live, and laugh, and grow with the characters that become so known to us, that we never want them to go away.

Every time there is a show that is cancelled too early, we miss it, and we wish that there could have been more. Think Freaks and Geeks, or My So-Called Life, or Undeclared. But there is something that happens when a show is gone before long: it never has the chance to overstay its welcome, and it never has the chance to become ridiculous.

It happens to the best of shows. After years on the air, and a dwindling number of interesting story lines remaining, shows hit the wall. Despite knowing this, we try to stick around for as long as possible, wanting to keep pushing forward with our viewership in hopes that one day the show will again be as good as it once was.

Often, it is possible to pinpoint the exact moment when a show hits the wall; other times, it is a series of events that leads everything on a downward spiral, too often rendering a classic show unwatchable.

Here is a look at a few shows (believe me, there are many more) where a wall was hit, and the show was never the same, or as good, after. There were too many for one article, so if you have suggestions for other shows that hit the wall hard, leave them in the comments below!
