Mascara has been taking risks lately, from colorful shades to punk rock clumps, but now wet lashes may become the new trend. Why? As Maybelline global makeup artist Yadim explained backstage at Jason Wu, “it’s a simple, easy, beautiful look but there’s a little something to it.”
Jason Wu is known for his classic, sophisticated styles, but he wanted a modern edge for the makeup this season. “My initial thought was to do something with a crazy mascara or something, and I thought he would be a little afraid of it, but in the end when I brought the girls out he loved this — he’s obsessed with it,” said Yadim.
To get the look, he first used Maybelline Volum’Express Colossal Chaotic Effect Mascara ($5) to clump up the ends of the lashes. “We don’t go to the root of the lash — Just swish it back and forth using the tip of the mascara wand,” he says. “It kind of bunches the lashes together.” Next came the added wet effect.
