J.K. Rowling Shares Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Wand Designs

Here’s our first look at the wands from ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’.

Author J.K. Rowling shared a sketch of the wand designs on Twitter today, revealing which characters own each particular wand… and it even includes some notes about each design.

“Exciting morning at rehearsals for #CursedChild,” she said alongside the image. “What do you think of our wand designs? #HarryPotterPlay”

As you can see, the image depicts the wands of Hermione, Harry and Ron as well as those of Draco Malfoy and Ginny.

The notes underneath reveal the materials used to craft each wand… as well as some short notes about their design.

According to these notes and sketches, Harry’s wand is made of Holly, with veins clearly depicted creeping upwards across the entire length of the wand. Hermione has a more elegant design, with a vine twisted around the handle. Ron’s wand is (rather curiously) described as a ‘Striped Sweater’ and is made of chestnut.

Draco’s wand is made of Hawthorne and is described simply as a ‘sabre’, while Ginny’s wand is made of Yew and described as ‘cozy’ with a knurled grip.

‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ picks up 19 years after the events of ‘The Deathly Hallows’ and follows the story of Harry and his son, Albus. Little else is known about the upcoming theatre production… but as the continuing story of Harry Potter (and the eighth in the Harry potter saga), it’s bound to do rather well.

‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ heads to the Palace Theatre on 30 July 2016.
