Richard Yap supports shorter filming hours

Actor Richard Yap shared that he thoroughly supports the effort made by some industry players to shorten the working hours on the set of television shows.

As reported on Inquirer, the actor, who himself had once been hospitalised for fatigue due to working long hours, stated that shorter working hours would be a pleasant welcome to the industry.

A proposal was recently made by several industry leaders to cut the working hours, following the deaths of many filmmakers throughout the years – the most recent including Wenn V. Deramas and Francis Xavier Pasion – from cardiac arrest and similar diseases that stemmed from work stress and fatigue.

"It's sad that there were directors, some of them whom I knew personally, who passed away at the prime of their lives [because of the long hours]," said Yap, who became a household name through his hit 2013 drama, "Be Careful With My Heart".

He stated that working in the industry is physically and emotionally taxing, as filming can go on from the early morning to late at night. This is particularly harder for the crew, as they would arrive on set much earlier than the actors and be the last ones to leave.

"The eight to 14-hour cutoff in work schedule would be good for everyone," he said.
